The point about blackface is valid. I'm not going to get into the ins and outs of my black studies degree (who'da thunk?), but in the past few years the argument of blackface vs. black face paint has come up pretty aggressively, in large part because of ghetto parties and whatnot showing up on Facebook. Dressing up in the tradition of minstrelsy, which is purely exaggerated stereotype, is racist in it's origins and application. On the other hand, painting your ass chocolate to look like Lil' Wayne is more of a reflection of how committed you are to the party. In the case of a professional cheerleader, do you think she was trying to throw down racial political commentary or simply rage her face off?
"... white people dressed as black people to embellish offensive stereotypes and racial insensitivity for comedic purposes... Was she adhering to the racist undertone that "blackface" implies? I believe not..."
So... she dressed as Lil' Wayne as a sort of tribute to the nobleness and inborn dignity of the black American male? #dallascowboyscheerleader
Deron said he mostly enjoyed the freedom to speed, jaywalk, talk on his phone while driving, and commit other minor infractions without so much as a glance from police. #dallascowboyscheerleader
Next year, to cover all my bases, I'm dressing up as a white Dallas Cowboys cheerleader dressed up as a black male rapper dressed up as a white baseball player who broke a hallowed record established by an Iron Horse. #dallascowboyscheerleader
@Phintastic: Really? I was just taking a lame shot at the fucked up sensitivities of the politically correct. I haven't watched Entertainment Tonight in years, I have no clue who's gay or not anymore. #dallascowboyscheerleader
The really ridiculous part of this is that if she wore a full body rubber costume of Mr. Lil, then it would be no big deal...but since she took the time to use some kind of makeup to do it, some people get offended. It was a stellar costume, with extra credit for effort. Get over it. #dallascowboyscheerleader
