We can confirm that Collins' gig has, indeed, been dynamited.

Collins' "Meet The Team" biography was taken down at KXXV-TV, the ABC affiliate where he worked, and the link to it is no longer active. Collins' last report is datelined May 15, and it was about six Texas car dealerships losing their Chrysler franchises.

When we called the station's newsroom and asked to speak with Collins, we were told that he "no longer works here." The polite woman who answered our call didn't know when he had left the station and had no further information about his future plans. (If you know anything more, please send it in to tips@deadspin.com.)

Here's to hoping Collins lands on his feet, and soon. We're confident that with just a little more publicity, he'll be looking for a measure of revenge against the New Jersey Nets and to strengthen his playoff hopes before we know it.

UPDATE: Just got an e-mail from an anonymous tipster that Collins was let go, along with a few others, in a cost-cutting move by KXXV. Local news jobs are disappearing — we know all about that.

<![CDATA[The Academy Awards Finally Recognizes 'Boom Goes The Dynamite']]> And the Oscar for best unintentionally hilarious sports catch phrase goes to ... the "Boom Goes the Dynamite" guy! (Applause). Here's Will Smith to present the award.

We're always so proud when an internet meme makes the big time ... as you know if you were invited to our "You're with me, leather," party when it appeared on an episode of Las Vegas. Congratulations go out to Brian Collins, and of course all the little people who made this night possible.

By the way, I finally saw The Reader on Saturday Night. I think th zzzzzzzzzzzZZZ.

Via World of Isaac:

Last night's "Family Guy" episode featured yet another use of Brian Collins' notorious "Boom Goes the Dynamite!" call.

<![CDATA[Brian Collins' Career Finally Gets A Boom]]> Brian Collins, the flustered college sportscaster thrust into internet infamy thanks to his woeful "Boom Goes The Dynamite!" display, has finally seen his hard work and humiliation pay off for him in the best way possible — an actual on-air job.

The 2008 Ball State graduate has apparently latched on full-time with KXXV in Waco, Texas (And Boom Go The Branch Davidians!) and according to his bio, "encourages residents to contact him about any story ideas."

I bet more than half of those requests will be for more Indiana Pacers coverage.

Congratulations to Brian.

<![CDATA[One Man's TV Nightmare Is Another's Comedy Gold]]>
If you're like me, you're tired of boring TV segments in which the sports anchor doesn't stumble over words or get his video clips mixed up. Too slick, too conventional. Give me a guy like Huntington University's Tom Brodbeck any day. Bewildered, sweaty, completely out of his element; this is a sportscast I can enjoy. It's not quite "Boom goes the dynamite" hilarious, but Tom gets major style points when at one point he slams the desk and pleads "Can we just start over?" Yes, we can all relate to that.

Of course, when you're struggling like this, it's always helpful to have a couple of smart-ass girls in the studio mocking you relentlessly.

BONUS: Since this concerns an actual newscaster, Anchorman quotes are in play. (Blows whistle, makes revolving motion with arm).

<![CDATA[Boom Goes A Young Man's Dignity]]> If you've ever wondered what happened to the people who star in those internet videos that make you laugh, the answer appears to be, well, nothing good. Brian Collins, he of "Boom Goes The Dynamite" fame, talks about his experience here.

He was no longer comfortable around strangers, he was harrassed by telephone into the wee hours of the night, and pretty much went into hiding. People approach him all the time for no other reason than to tell him that he sucks. I would imagine that that would get old.

It's hard not to feel for the guy. He was somehow thrown into a situation he clearly wasn't ready for, and it didn't go well. Hopefully, he'll get to a point eventually where he can look at it and laugh, and perhaps, when forecasting an approaching storm front, work in a line like, "and BOOM goes the thunder."

Anyway, if Brian Collins' life was monkey-wrenched by "Boom goes the dynamite," just imagine what's happening to Mike Cooper. Ouch.
