In a game that went back and forth all the way through regulation, Georgetown exploded to a 79-70 victory after the overtime period. The 17th ranked Hoyas were out-rebounded by a wide margin, although they played standout defense and got plenty of timely buckets.

“Before the game, y’all were talking about how big they are, but we made the plays,” said the 6-foot-1 [Chris] Wright, who gave up 5 inches to [Tyreke] Evans, “so it just goes to show that size isn’t the most important thing in the game.”

DaJuan Summers led the way with 21 points and 7 rebounds with Austin Freeman contributing 18.

The Vols are can't handle Christmas. Temple pulled off one of the day's two big upsets on the strength of 35 points from Dionte Christmas. The Owls ran away for an 88-72 victory.

That came out of nowhere. As for the other upset, a pretty crappy UMass team stunned Kansas 61-60 in Lawrence Kansas City. The Jayhawks could never find their shot, and the Minutemen were able to hold out for the win.

The Buckeyes survive the Bulldogs. Gordon Hayward scored nearly half of Butler's 51 points, but it wasn't enough to get past Ohio State in Columbus. the Buckeyes won it 54-51

<![CDATA[UCLA Is Quite Athletic]]> Oregon took the court wearing the latest in Nike's experimental uniforms, and for a while the shimmering black-on-black look appeared to work out for the visitors. However their second half lead was quickly erased by the Bruins up-tempo attack. Russell Westbrook appeared to tweak his ankle, but he came right back out and threw down one of the most vicious dunks of the season on some poor unsuspecting Duck. He and Darren Collison combined for 33 points and 8 assists with Kevin Love providing 15 and 11. UCLA outscored Oregon by 13 in the second half on their way to a 75-65 win.
Continue after the jump for more of last night's action, as well as video of Bruce Pearl grabbing himself a piece of Erin Andrews. Bloggers approve.

• Mid-Majorama. Butler's reign atop the mountain of mid-majors took a serious blow last night when Drake (ed. note: Love the Drake!) upended the Bulldogs 71-64. Josh Young led the way for Drake with 25 points.

• Kansas State has two players. Holy crap! Michael Beasley blew up for 44 and 13 while Bill Walker did his thing with 31 and 11, but Kansas State lost. Yes, apparently Baylor's entire roster of basketball playing student athletes was enough to trump State's two dominant forces by a score of 92-86. Yep, the rest of the Wildcat roster contributed just 11 points on 18 shots.

• Bayless is God. Freshman deity Jerryd Bayless dropped 20 points in the second half against Wazzu to carry Arizona to a huge win. Chase Buddinger scored 22 and the Wildcats are looking more like a legitimate tournament team despite some injury concerns.

• Kansas blows. That is all.

<![CDATA[Trojans Fit Like A Glove]]> If somebody tells you that they have a read on this USC team then you should feel free to tell them that they are full of shit. Last night they came in to Pauley Pavilion and took care of business against a heavily favored UCLA team that couldn't get anything to fall (33% from the field). Aboya, Mbah a Moute, and Westbrook combined to shoot 3-22 and folks, that's not going to get the job done. USC was led by their other freshman, Davon Jefferson, who flourished with 25 points and nine rebounds. O.J. Mayo added 16 points and four assists.

• A&M's looking pretty crappy. Another strong start to the season for the Aggies has come to an abrupt halt in the last week. Since starting 15-1 they've now lost back-to-back conference games to Texas Tech and, most recently, Kansas State. Michael Beasley and Bill Walker didn't dominate the boards as you'd expect (they combined for 8 and they came in averaging 18) but their offensive efforts were more than enough to carry Wildcats to an easy 75-54 win.

• Regular season dominance. Kansas was tested by their neighbors from Missouri but they escaped with their undefeated record in tact after a 76-70 win. Stefhon Hannah put up a line of 23/6/4 but none of his teammates scored more than ten points. Brandon Rush struggled for the Jayhawks (2-14 shooting) but they were able to overcome the weak individual performance with a balanced team effort. I can't wait to bet against this team in the Elite 8.

• Yep, that's a ridiculous record. George Mason's Dre Smith was a perfect 10-10 from the land of triples in a win over their "rivals" from James Madison. Impressive.

• It's just one game, people. Terps win, Heels cry and sing songs around the campfire.

<![CDATA[Knight Reaches New Heights, Real Teams Play]]> Bobby Knight picked up win number 899 for his career yesterday and he marked the occasion by bringing his infant grandson to the post game press conference. Fortunately he refrained from teaching the kid any new words. Follow after the jump for the video (h/t FanHouse) and the recap of Oregon's win over Arizona and yesterday's other big games...

According to many of the gathered media members, at least one of them shit their diaper.

• Ducks Fly Together! Malik Hairston (29 points) was unstoppable for Oregon who bested Arizona in Eugene for the second consecutive season. Without injured freshmen phenom Jerry Bayless the Wildcats didn't have enough firepower, or perimeter defense to handle the Ducks onslaught of jump shooting. Chase Budinger led all scorers with 30. The final of 84-74 left both teams with records of 10-4 (1-1).

• Jayhawks Rule Regular Season. Kansas remained unbeaten with an easy win over a Boston College team that looked completely out of sorts. Darnell Jackson had 25 and 9 with Darrell Arthur contributing 22 and 7. Al Skinner set the tone for the Eagles by opening his mouth really really wide to yell at people. Kansas sure looks great when you start to forget that Bill Self is pulling the strings.

• Models of Inconsistency. Texas beat another ranked team-although number 24 St. Mary's might not belong up there yet-continuing to confuse everybody who was sort of paying attention. The 81-62 win was their second straight after they dropped two in a row to Big 10 opponents Michigan State and Wisconsin. They've already beaten Tennessee and UCLA at Pauley Pavilion.

• I am incredibly distracted. My Pitt Panthers are just underway at Villanova (on ESPN Plus and 360) in one of today's two games pitting top 25 teams against each other. The other is the 7 pm contest between UNC and Clemson on Fox Sports. This is going to be a tough test for the 13th ranked Panthers who must move ahead without their two injured starters, Levance Fields and Mike Cook.
