Curry, who now plays for the New York Knicks, was in Philadelphia Saturday for a game. He was back in New York later that evening, distraught and contemplating a trip to Chicago, the source said." <![CDATA[Not A Racist, A Genuinely Nice Human Being, And, Uh, That's It, I Guess]]> At first, Eddy Curry, the hobbled Knicks' center, wouldn't comment on the ridiculous sexual harassment lawsuit brought upon him by his ex-chauffeur, but now he can't stop talking about it.

One thing that's been a constant throughout this whole messy affair has been the unwavering support both from reporters and teammates about this incident. The New York Times gave a glowing assessment of his character today, suggesting that it's Curry's over-friendliness that's gotten him into this mess. It's his gentle giant attitude that's also prevented him from being a productive big man in the NBA — included is a quote from former coach Isiah Thomas about Curry the player: "He's a nice man."

Curry's adamantly denied the allegations. He's given plenty of interviews to the Chicago and New York press, and the AP contesting the racism charges — and the gun situation — including this exclusive interview he gave to the Chicago Tribune in which he really, really tries to prove he's not a racist or an Anti-Semite:

"He calls me racist and my best friend on the planet is white. He calls me an anti-Semite and my agent is Jewish. I really don't understand how anybody could look at this and think it's remotely true," he said.

See? Not racist. This is the second time I've heard this I'll-show-you-I'm-not defense was used in the last couple days, the first being when the dimwitted chunky contestant on "Rock of Love Bus" tried to defend her racially insensitive comments by proclaiming, "How can I be racist? I have a black grandfather!" Regardless, I'm sure Curry's not a racist. He's said that multiple times.

One thing he hasn't directly addressed up to this point is the whole homosexual come-on part of the harassment suit. Sure, you could surmise that his "it's not true" defense encompasses all of the allegations but, given the circumstances, that seems like something he'd want to clarify as well, yet he's been dodgy. But do the Chicago writers know a secret the rest of the NBA world does not? The timing of this column by Sun-Times columnist Neil Hayes would suggest there are some "larger issues" to be looked at here.

Curry is married, a father of three, and has had basketball career littered with both professional and off-court problems, including an awful at-home robbery and heart problems. And it seems everyone in the media is thoroughly convinced that the lawsuit is utterly preposterous based solely on the fact that Curry's too nice a guy to play with guns or hurl such hurtful insults at an employee. But, well, they don't seem thoroughly convinced that he's not a man dealing with some sexual identity issues. Remember — David Kuchinsky was a man whom Curry befriended in spite of his prison record. That's the type of guy Eddy Curry is. Remember, the big man is hurt by these allegations "...because this is a guy who I really thought he was my friend.”

I'm curious to see how this plays out.

<![CDATA[Does Curry's Accuser Look Like A Man Who Would Make Up A Story For Money?]]> He seems kind of slimy. And Eddy Curry is disappointed and horrified by his former employee's actions.

The New York Post updated its original story this morning, finally getting in touch with the Knicks center, who is desperately trying to come back from knee surgery and salvage a career haunted by under-achievement and injuries. He's a little taken aback by the allegations, obviously:

"It's false, and everyone who knows me knows I'm not a racist," he said after the Knicks beat the Hornets in New Orleans. "I've never made a comment like that, playing, or nothing. . . . That's incredible, man."...[Curry] aid last night that Kuchinsky had contacted a friend of his, "and every time, it was something different.First time, it was to curse me out. Second time, it was to apologize. Third time, it was 'If Eddy doesn't call me, I'm going to sue him.' I just never, ever thought it would go past what it did, which was just idle threats, money-or-else kind of stuff."

Curry does have supporters, though.

Best comment so far about the incident? Shaq from his Twitter:

"Nypost.com about eddy curry wow, i gotta go to bed on this one, geez."

Can't wait!

<![CDATA[Eddy Curry And The Disturbing, Big Gay Sexual Harassment Lawsuit]]> So, Knicks center Eddy Curry may have some bigger problems facing him than finding playing time. In a lengthy lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court by his former chauffeur, David Kuchinsky, we find out that Curry may be a super-aggressive anti-Semitic closet homosexual with a penchant for gun play. Whee. Read on.

Now, let's preface by saying this: Kuchinsky is a convicted felon who has supposedly been wrangling with the Knicks center over some unpaid wages when he was working as a full-time chauffeur from 2005-2008. Curry had no comment on the suit (really!), but his attorney hints that this could be a shakedown tactic by a desperate man. So here's a summary of Kuchinsky's allegations:

• Curry repeatedly approached him in the nude allegedly telling him, "Look at me, Dave, look" and "Come and touch it, Dave."

• Kuchinsky claims Curry made him perform "humiliating tasks outside the scope of his employment" such as cleaning up and removing ejaculate-filled towels so that Curry's wife would not see them.

• When Kuchinsky balked at some of these tasks, he claims he was verbally assaulted by Curry, including being called, "fucking Jew," "cracker," "white slave," "white devil" and "grandmaster of the KKK."

• Curry also pointed a "fully loaded" gun at the chauffeur on two separate occasions to stop him from whining about his treatment, allegedly telling Kuchisnky, "Look, I have one in the chamber."

I have a hunch that Kuchisnky will get some of his bills paid after this. Also? This has to be Isiah's fault.

Update: Curry tells the NY Times the allegations were "absolutely false; just incredible" and “I guess it’s just a prime example of you just got to watch who you have around you,” Curry said, “because this is a guy who I really thought he was my friend.”

<![CDATA[Knicks' Curry Latest NBA Player To Be Robbed]]> When I eventually make the NBA — What? I have great court vision! — and I'm making millions of dollars off my 1.6 assists-per-game and great locker-room presence, please remind me NOT to buy a house in or around the Chicago, Illinois area. This is getting ridiculous.

Knicks center Eddy Curry was robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning at his home in suburban Chicago.

Three masked robbers restrained the 6-foot-11 Curry, some of his family members and an employee with duct tape and held them at gunpoint, Burr Ridge (Ill.) police said.

No one was hurt, but the robbers fled the scene with cash and jewelry.

The robbery comes nearly three weeks after Miami Heat star and Chicago native Antoine Walker was robbed at gunpoint at his home in Chicago's River North neighborhood.

Bold statement warning ... NBA ROBBERS ARE THUGS! There. I said it.

Good question from Winning The Turnover Battle, though: With a second NBA player being robbed at gunpoint in Chicago this month, will the Chicago Bulls now face a harder time trying to sign a big name free agent next summer?

Hmm, I don't know. Do people hate Kevin Garnett enough to try and rob him? I mean, this is Antoine Walker and Eddy Curry we're talking about here...

<![CDATA[Tracking The NBA Death Pool]]> From the Creepy And Mean Yet Fascinating department comes this entry from upstart NBA blog The Association: The NBA Death Pool. Which NBA player/coach with no business playing/coaching will drop dead at just the wrong moment?

It's distasteful, sure, but Oddjack isn't here to break down the lines, so we feel like it's our job. Coming in at 5:1 is the Lakers' Ronny Turiaf, with incumbent favorite Eddy Curry falling to 10:1.

Our best bet: The longshot Pat Riley at 100:1. Anybody who puts off hip replacement surgery to coach Antoine Walker and Jason Williams is, frankly, kind of asking for it.

<![CDATA[Bulls Wash Their Hands Of Curry]]> Well, the Chicago Bulls finally solved their Eddy Curry problem the way NBA executives like to solve problems: Trade him to the Knicks! Isiah Thomas will always take in your tired, your poor, your congenital heart defected. The Bulls receive wide-butt Michael Sweetney, occasional malcontent Tim Thomas, frequent cause of Davis-related confusion Antonio Davis and a draft pick.

The Knicks are not expected to require Curry take the oft-debated DNA test, though since the deal hasn't officially been announced yet, no one knows for sure. Since they're the Knicks, they've already offered him a six-year, $40 million deal. Hope the ticker hangs in.

<![CDATA[The Eddy Curry Problem]]> You wouldn't know it from "Around the Horn," but sometimes in sports, an issue is too complicated and full of too much subtlety to get much of a handle on. You understand both sides, recognize every viewpoint and struggle to come up with a solution that's fair to everyone. (Weird, for sports, we know.)

We absolutely cannot get a handle on this Eddy Curry situation. To recap, the Chicago Bulls want their portly but potentially dominant center to take a DNA test to check for congenital heart problems before they let him play this year; Curry says that it's an invasion of privacy and that allowing teams to test players' DNA for potential problems opens up a whole big nasty bag of worms.

The Chicago Daily Southtown points out that the Bulls need to make sure Curry isn't going to arrest right on the court, and that makes sense. But the Sports Law Blog points out that not only does the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement not allow for such testing, many doctors consider it unethical. That makes sense too. And when you throw a contract dispute on top of it, the whole thing is just maddening. And kind of sad.

We have no side on this, because sometimes both sides are right, and both sides are wrong.
