We saw two NL Central "contenders" fire their closers, two games decided in the ninth inning and we even took the "hard hat" tour of the Miller Brewing plant, where we saw, first hand, why people are chubbier in the Midwest. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

A word, however, on Miller Park, and that retractable roof. The roof has been closed for every game so far this season, and we asked about 15 different people why that was — it didn't rain either day — and got about 15 different answers. (The Brewers have had tons of problems with their roof anyway.) Some said it was because it takes forever to open, some said it has to be a perfect day, some said the ball carries better inside and the struggling Brewers offense needed all the help it could get. But no one seemed to really understand why, and that includes several reporters who could, conceivably, ask.

But they did have dollar hot dogs all weekend and a massive parking lot in which we drank many Miller Lites and watched people play a game called "Testicle Toss." And the beer man freaked out our parents and us by saying, upon handing us our MGD Lites, "Hey, you're the guy who got yelled at on TV. Man, that guy was just goin' crazy." There are more HBO subscribers than we realized, apparently. We quietly sipped our beverages, kept score and remained focused on the game after that. Freaking Isringhausen.

<![CDATA[The Red Sox Have Had Just About Enough Of This Gagne Fellow]]>
So, Red Sox fans, how are you feeling about Eric Gagne these days?

You can turn on any radio station in the New England area and absorb the bile, or, if you want, you can just check out this selection of Facebook groups.

Eric Gagne Depreciation Group
- gagne and lugo suck ass
- Eric Gagne: Yankee Saboteur?
- GO AWAY GAGNE
- Hang Gagne (Description: If this group reaches 1,000,000 people the red sox have agreed to hang Eric Gagne. Also, if this group reaches 10, JD Drew will be shot.)

There are a total of about 100. Sox fans can only hope there is no more inspiration to create more.

<![CDATA[A Big Trading Day, And In Baseball Too]]> It is perhaps baseball's misfortune to, on the one day a year everyone looks for baseball trades, have its thunder stolen by an NBA trade, but then again, no one's been waiting six years to see where Joel Pineiro would finally be traded.

Anyway, here's a rundown of the trades that did happen.

• Yep, the Red Sox now have Eric Gagne. It seems strange he hasn't pitched for the Red Sox or Yankees before, doesn't it?
• The Phillies got another wife beater to hang out with Brett Myers.
• The Royals sent Octavio Dotel to the Braves for Kyle Davies. This should make the Royals bullpen even more fun to watch.
• The Cardinals have Pineiro. Joy.
• The Yankees now have Wilson Betemit, and only gave up that Proctor fellow.

A few may trickle through as the night goes along, but those are the "big" ones. And we're gonna go back to talking about Kevin Garnett now.

By the way, Tom Glavine's going for his 300th win tonight. We hope he's not taking a cab to the game.

<![CDATA[Fun With Rampant Irresponsible Steroid Speculation!]]> Rangers "closer" Eric Gagne is hurt again — this time it's his hip — and his impending absence allows everyone, once again, to play the great early-season He's Hurt Because He's Off Steroids Now game. It's fun because we have no idea!

Some early season suspicions include:

• Gagne.
• Mark Prior.
• Jason Schmidt.

And that's just the pitchers, and we're not even counting Roger Clemens yet. It is comforting, in a way, to be able to act as if injuries have some natural, reasoned ancestor, particularly if it's a salacious one. This is the mess we have been handed, so it's little wonder we grasp. We're probably right more often than we even realize.
