    As a Lions "fan" the draft is usually the highlight of our season, all that hopefulness and anticipation. "oh, we've got a high pick! who should we take? how will we build our team," its really all downhill once you hear "For the X pick the Detroit Lions select..."


    So thanks for this Drew. Also you're taste in music is truly awful.

    So glad to see someone else giving Mastodon some love...


    I rarely buy CDs, but I do buy CDs of bands that I like a lot and want to support beyond just digital downloads, and Mastodon is one of those half dozen bands.


    I didn't read anything about Crack the Skye (reviews, etc.) and it was not at all what I was expecting after Leviathan or Blood Mountain. It was better.


    When describing this album, I try and use an analogy that more people would be familiar with by saying that this album is to Mastodon what OK Computer was to Radiohead, and people with a bit more critic-street-cred have even said that it's the hard rock/metal genre's The Wall.

    @Ailanthus-altissima: It's really different. Leviathan was heavy and fast. Crack the Skye is more epic, less brutal (but still has the jazz-drum/crazy guitar stuff).

    @spankyjoe: Melody doesn't have to play a role. While I'm not to keen on crusty, I'm a proponent of thrash and powerviolence.

    Agoraphobic Nosebleed is just a bit too slow for my liking...KIDDING (though having a drum machine makes it easier for them to keep up the pace).

    Also, and this is a minor point, I am a she, not a he.
