@Steve U: So he's using the Darren Dreifort deal as a comparable, then? Considering Dreifort was about as useful to the Dodgers as a towel, I think they'd be wise take the deal.
@Disco Choo: He won't squelch the fire, he will take it out fishing, then after a few beers on the back porch, the fire will just apologize to Thome and squelch itself.
@ManchuCandidate: Yeah, Kenny is a horrible general manager.
He's only got a world series title and consistently been one of the most aggresive GMs in baseball, acquiring proven veteran players for almost nothing (the only prospect that he has dealt that has eventually done ANYTHING is Chris Young) AND signing guys who were given up on by other organizations but turn out to be diamonds in the rough (Thornton, Quentin).
He has done all of this while rebuilding the team and keeping them relatively competitive at the same time. Sure this is partly because the division sucks, but still.
And I love it when fans (or blog writers) complain about bad money/contracts a team takes on. Are you paying the players? No. Have those contracts caused the team to stop making moves to try to better the team? No. Is there a salary cap to worry about? No.

Who knew that an OF who fails with men on base would fail in a pennant race?
