Again. And he didn't even have to piss off America to do it. [Boston Globe]

<![CDATA[Let's Face It; Junior Seau Is Huggable, And Fans Are Only Human]]> So the guy who ran onto the field and tackled the Patriots' Junior Seau on Sunday? He's an Iraq war National Guard veteran, and his lawyer says it was all a big mistake.

The man, Todd Kobus of Attleboro, is a big Seau fan, and all he was trying to do was give the player a hug. That's according to Kobus' attorney, John Gaffney Jr. Coincidentally, the headline of the Sun Chronicle story, Was It A Tackle Or A Hug?, is what Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt kept repeating to himself as he watched the game film.

"It was an impulsive thing. He just stepped onto the field," Gaffney said. "I think he expected he would be removed from the game, but not arrested. He already feels bad about this because the owner of the tickets might lose them. On his own initiative, Kobus will write Seau, who is 6-feet, 3-inches tall and weighs 250 pounds, a letter of apology, "so hopefully, this will blow over quick," the attorney said.

We at Deadspin urge leniency; it's not like he threw a shoe. Besides, isn't being smacked in the puss by multiple snowballs punishment enough?

<![CDATA[Junior Seau Is Not As Quick As He Used To Be]]> We know that networks don't like to show bad fan behavior for fear of copycats, but we really need to see video of the idiot that tackled Junior Seau on the sidelines yesterday. [Vent]

<![CDATA[Junior Seau, Paragon Of Taste And Virtue]]> hugmebaby.jpgJunior Seau. San Diego legend. New England injured reserver. Man of the people. Pillar of the community. And, obviously, advocate for women's issues.

From The Smoking Gun today:

Two women are suing NFL star Junior Seau, claiming that the future Hall of Famer drunkenly called them "female-specific profanities" and tossed drinks on them during a bar confrontation last year. The women, who are only identified as "Jane Roe #1" and "Jane Roe #2" in their January 8 complaint, charge that the 37-year-old linebacker "physically threatened and attacked" them last May at Side Bar, a popular San Diego nightspot. The Superior Court lawsuit does not detail what precipitated the alleged incident, though a footnote in the document does quote what Seau reportedly said to the Roes.

"Put your shirt on, your tits are too small!" he allegedly counseled Jane Roe #1. Jane Roe #2 allegedly received this fitness advice: "Get on a treadmill, you c—t!" The women also claim that Seau threw two drinks on them, "ruining Plaintiffs' clothing (and evening)."

Yeah, you know, that would do it. Charming fellow.

<![CDATA[Willie McGinest, Logic Monolith]]> This picture of new Cleveland Browns defensive end Willie McGinest — by the way, did you realize where Browns training camp was? Berea! — shows him wearing No. 55, the number he has worn since he played for USC more than a decade ago.

McGinest loves the number so much, in fact, that he's blasting the Patriots for giving the number away after he left the team. But this is where the logic gets screwy. McGinest originally wore the number to honor Junior Seau, who had the digits just before McGinest at USC. So Seau, wanting to wear it now that he plays in New England but wanting to show respect — whatever that means anymore — to McGinest, called him and asked if would be OK to wear it. McGinest said yes ... and then turned and trashed the Patriots for even asking.

Quoth the McGinest: "What if I had went to San Diego? I don't even think that would have been an option for me to ask for 55 I think they would have said, 'You know what, you're a great player, but we've got to put this number to the side because of Junior.' And out of respect, I wouldn't have asked for the number."

OK, so we're really confused. McGinest is angry because Seau — the reason he wears 55 — called him and asked to wear the number, even though McGinest said yes. And did we mention we're talking about a freaking jersey number here? You know what? Athletes are dumb.
