@Dashiell Bennett: Two national titles, three-time National Championship game MVP (including one over Charlie Ward in 1993), and a lifetime 33-3 recond.
If Tim Tebow beats Oklahoma to win his second national championship in three years there's no doubt he's the greatest player of the BCS era.
Tim Tebow was the backup on the 2006 title team. In his first year as the Gators' starter, he lost more games than Matt Leinart lost as a starter in his entire college career. But since he played most of his games outside of the southeast, which is apparently the only place that college football happens, I suppose he doesn't count.
I think the BCS selection committee is purposely making tOSU the symbol of everything wrong with the BCS every season until the Big 10 finally gets sick of it and agrees to a playoff.
Maybe, as an tOSU fan, I'm just tired of being the symbol of the all the BCS's shortcomings, because there's absolutely no reason tODU should be playing in a BCS bowl over Boise St., other than "They'll make the most money", and everyone knows it.
@Matt_T: As stated, the old way, either write a check to set the games up or let each of them play a 1 loss squad and let the voters decide. Worse case we have a split, but every body got a shot to make their case.
@ghostsoftheSCupcountry: Under the old way the conference champs HAD to go to their bowl tie in. So Florida would be in the Sugar. There was no getting around that.
I liked the Dr Pepper halftime contests better when they had to kick a field goal for a million. this $100,000 scholarships is truly a sign of the GOD DAMN recession.
The system clearly works. Look at that important San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl featuring undefeated Boise St playing just one day before football powerhouse Notre Dame gets to prove why they deserve to be in Hawaii.
Does anyone notice that Doug Flutie does studio analysis like he played football -- with no concern for the people working with him or the integrity of the game. From his hideous wardrobe to the fact that he looks like he hates Craig James guts, it is bizarre and beautiful at the same time.
@MarkKelsosMigraine: He played football with "no concern for the integrity of the game?" Was he fixing games left and right and you're the only guy on the planet who is aware of it? Seriously, BC Football wasn't shaving points until the Dan Henning era. Doug was in Canada by then.
@Celerino Sanchez: I was more referring to his play as QB of the Bills. He played recklessly and selfishly and won because of a stout defense and got rewarded with a fucking cereal. The guy drives me nuts is all.
I for one long for the days when a BYU or Miami could come out of nowhere and win the national title by virtue of an undefeated season. Utah and Boise State got robbed. If they played for the title, it would be a far better game than Florida/Oklahoma and betetr for DI football too.
@Matt_T: The point is, back in the 80s, BYU and Miami didn't play A+ competition but still got a shot the title by virtue of winning out. We'll never know. Fla, TX, OK don't have the guts to schedule decent non-conference opponents. Cmon, is any team that beat the Citadel any more worthy than an undefeated MWC champ?
@ghostsoftheSCupcountry: The BCS is better than what happened in the 80s. Under the old bowl system, USC and Texas never would have played in 2005 and neither would have Miami and Ohio State in 2003.
Is it perfect? No, but to say that Utah and Boise State deserve a shot over Florida and Oklahoma (or Texas or Texas Tech) just because they are undefeated is silly.
@Matt_T: Taht was the fault of the old bowls tie-ins. And we all know that a big check could have set up either game. Penn State/Miami in the Fiesta bowl.
For the record, Marcellus Wiley called the Big XII halftime competition - he sounded like his mouth was full of marbles and his bloodstream was full of horse tranquilizers.

Correct, the Boise State/OK game. Which DIDN'T feature two 2 losses big conference schools.

The reason they are undefeated is due to their schedule, not the quality of their team.

But that Oklahoma team was there for winning the Big 12, not because they were one of the top 2 teams that year.
