    When I was being recruited to play baseball and basketball at Maryland back in the late 60's, the 2 coaches involved offered to pay a waitress at the Varsity Grill to give me a hand job.

    This practice isn't limited to sports at SEC schools. How do you think LSU convinced me to come to Baton Rouge to get my accounting degree? Because it was close to home and it was the only place I could afford to go? I don't think so*.

    Some schools are making adjustments. In recent years Miami's Hurricane Honeys were renamed the Cane Connection . . .

    Then in 2003, a campus newspaper's investigation into Arizona State's all-female recruiting group revealed that members routinely supplied underage recruits with wild parties, alcohol and occasionally sex while serving as hostesses.

    "Wild Parties, Alcohol and Sex" is actually a major at ASU. These girls were just working on their senior papers.

    The hostesses were never given orders about what to do—remember the trust?—but they were also never told what not to do.

    Those poor girls ended up getting involved in land wars in Asia and playing poker with a guy whose first name is a city.
