Fitting, since good taste drove the Rams and Raiders out of town too. [LA Daily News]

<![CDATA[Get Ready For The Los Angeles Saints In 2009...Maybe?]]> An unidentified partner of the man trying to bring the NFL back to Los Angeles told a local paper earlier in the week that he had "no doubt" that the city would be home to a pro team in 2009. And we report that with all apologies to USC. Of course, no team has been identified by the league (or anyone else) as a candidate for the LA market, which turns this whole scenario into one big game of "he said, nobody said."

Majestic Realty Vice President John Semcken, who is partners with developer Ed Roski, Jr., said Tuesday, "We are going to have a team here next September."

According to the report, any facilities – interim or permanent – should be able to accommodate not one, but two NFL teams.

The interim site in question is the Rose Bowl, who Semcken indicates could also host a second NFL team at the same time. Which begs the question: If these guys aren't full of shit (and that remains to be seen), what team are they going to lure to the area? Let's ask our resident NFL expert, Mr. H. Gustav.

Any ideas on what team could be heading for California, Mr. Gustav?

<![CDATA[Los Angeles Plays Itself]]>
We come to you live from Los Angeles, California, a city in which we once lived and still kind of miss a little. And that's not just because there is no NFL team here. Though that doesn't hurt.

The book tour is off in earnest tonight: Our mad dash from Los Angeles to Alameda to Seattle to Chicago to Champaign to St. Louis to Mattoon to Boston to Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. back to New York begins tonight, at Book Soup here in Los Angeles. We were very honored last night to be a guest on KLAC last night, and, amusingly, we got to talk to Lakers VP and Phil Jackson ballhandler Jeannie Buss, who, we swear to God, actually claimed to have picked up Phil by saying "You're With Me, Leather." That was disconcerting.

We don't think it's a coincidence that we're arriving in Los Angeles at the same time as Pau Gasol. If we could grow a beard in his honor, we would. Instead, we're just gonna buy a Joe Torre jersey. Still pretty weird having him out here; we think we saw him selling oranges off the 405 last night.
