Oh, wait ... I mean he went to William & Mary, which is equally shocking. Also, the man has not aged. Don't let the fly "Kid 'N Play" high top fade fool you. The man is a sentient football-coaching robot. With a fantastic barber. If any Cardinals fans would like to go back in time and pull a Sarah Conner on his family, take this with you.

Anyway, I've been offline for two days. Did I miss anything? I'm trust that Pete's first solo flight was uneventful, with no large, controversial news stories to speak of. So let's take a look at today's slate of footba... oh. Right.

....sigh....

Actually, we've got NHL at 12:30, an NBA double-header at 1:00 and I'm sure we can find a college hoops game or something in there. Plus, I think today may be a good day to dump all the stuff piling up in my inbox that I didn't have the time or the heart to post during the week.

We're all in this together.

<![CDATA[Mike Tomlin Thinks Your Holiday Gimmicks Are Stupid And Tiresome]]>
The Deadspin Morning Video Wake Up Call needs your help. If you have any suggested videos to fill this space, email us. Subject: Morning Video Wake Up Call.

Apparently, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's harmless "if it will get you out of here" to this man dressed in a red suit has resulted in this AP story making him out to be a joyless anti-Santa. It's purely coincidental Steelers announced that there will be no more visits from Santa during press conferences anymore soon after this, right? Tomlin's not that much of a hard-ass is he?

<![CDATA[Steelers Going With Tomlin]]> The Pittsburgh Post Gazette is reporting that the Steelers have chosen Mike Tomlin to be their next head coach. The Steelers, according to the report, told Tomlin he was their choice, are negotiating with him right now, and have informed Russ Grimm of their decision, too.

Evidently, they were waiting to see what happened with the Bears/Saints game, just so they could confirm that a black coach could indeed get to the Super Bowl.

I think what happened is that the NFL actually wanted them to wait before making their decision known so it wouldn't steal any thunder from Championship Sunday, but it leaked out anyway... hence all the denials and curveballs and such.

I hope this report is right, but I'm going to be honest with you... I just don't care anymore. Mike Tomlin, Russ Grimm... if they hired Lily Tomlin or Joe Jacoby later today, I wouldn't tell you about it, because I think we've all had just about enough Steelers coaching news.

<![CDATA[Someone Is Going To Coach The Steelers]]> But it might not be Mike Tomlin. I linked to an article yesterday that reported that Tomlin had the job, then Tomlin denied that that was true... and then ESPN's Chris Mortensen said that it was true, and so did everyone else... and last night, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said the job belongs to Russ Grimm.

So if it turns out that the Tomlin reports were wrong yesterday, I apologize... to the Deadspin readers, to all the Steeler interviewees, and most importantly, to Omar Epps. It's a shame that Omar had to be dragged into it, and it's a shame that Russ Grimm can't look more like Omar Epps.

The Tomlin story was independently reported yesterday by MSNBC, SI.com, and ESPN.com... and they've all been wrong before individually, but it's a little strange for them to be all be wrong about one thing at the same time. Of course, it would also be strange if the Pittsburgh Tribune Review were to so boldly contradict all the other published reports if they weren't sure about it themselves.

I don't know. I just hope that this drags on so long that someone eventually offers the job to Kordell Stewart.

<![CDATA[Mike Tomlin To Replace The Beloved Chin]]> Mike Tomlin, former defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings, has been hired as the new head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Rooney family was said to really admire Tomlin's defensive philosophies, his organizational skills, his refreshing ability not to bathe every single person he talks to in saliva, and how much he looks like an older version of Omar Epps.

The official announcement is coming later today or tomorrow. Before Tomlin resurrected the Vikings defense, he served as the secondary coach of the Tampa Bay Bucs, back when the Bucs were good. He's also had a bunch of college assistant jobs, and his defenses have been top-notch at every stop.

Tomlin is the first black head coach hired this offseason. The NFL rule that mandates every team with a head coaching vacancy interview at least one minority candidate is referred to as "The Rooney Rule," as Steelers owner Dan Rooney is the one who pushed hardest for it.

It's a pretty large multi-colored sweater pair of shoes that Tomlin has to fill.
