In reply to Your Disdain for America Will Not Be Tolerated by the Newark Bears
A cop once told my momma on me when I was walking around the high school game during the National Anthem. I was 15, and at least I was being quiet and respectful, but I had to get somewhere so I was walking with my friends. He used to be my D.A.R.E. officer so we knew each other, and he came up to me a bit later and said "What were you doing walking around during the National Anthem?" I said I had to get somewhere, he said "Don't do that. You stand up, you stand still, and you pay attention to your country. Got it, bud?" Then he jokingly related the story to my momma a few days later, and I caught the appropriate amount of hell.

Curse? Scream? Yell? No. The funny thing was he probably could have literally beaten me and my momma would've only applauded, but there are respectful ways to do things, and you need to do it that way.

That being said, I'd put money that these kids were being jackasses and giving the guy a hard time.

@Chris Hanson's Axe: Why is it that kids were jackasses and giving a hard time? There are plenty of dbags around who froth at the mouth if someone doesn't salute anything colored red/white/blue...even if its the French flag.

@The Gizmo from Pismo: I'm just guessing; I wasn't there, I don't know for sure, and I'm not pretending to.

But I know how people my age-bracket act, and most of the time its with less than the proper amount of respect, which starts the negative cycle of adult who expects a hard time from them so gives them a hard time first, which annoys the kids, which annoys the adult... I've seen it a million times. My guess is this guy was reasonable and respectful enough at first, met with some resistance from some cocky kids, then things escalated in a negative cycle. That doesn't excuse the guy's behavior if indeed he did yell, scream, and curse, but I'm not willing, without further evidence, to assume that these 16 and 17 year olds were being perfectly innocent and respectful.

Check out Doug Dascenzo's link down below, and subtract a few years of wisdom.

@Chris Hanson's Axe: There is no scenario which could conceivably be called "reasonable or respectful" in which you would require someone to stand up and display their patriotism. Your premise is flawed right there. The suggestion that someone would be forced to do that is so insane.

@lukeoneil47: "Hey, fellas, its 'God Bless America', why don't we stand up for our country, yeah?"
    "Don't think so, faggot!"

    ...Pretty funny stuff.

Not that I'm saying that's what happened, or that the kids escalated it that bad so quickly. In fact, I doubt that. But you can't sit there and tell me my hypothetical scene doesn't look all-too possible.

I see absolutely, positively, no way that this story could ever have been misconstrued, poorly investigated, or exaggerated.
