I look forward to Pat's regular travels to my town. I figure he'll become a Cask n' Flagon regular -- totally his style.

Now: where do I buy black ribbons of mourning to put on my Phillies' #5 tshirt?

Pat the Bait, my friend, I will always miss you. May you enjoy the twilight of your career doing what you've always wanted to do; chewing tobacco on the bench while your team plays defense then snag some floozies and hit some dingers.

The Star Tribune is reporting that Twins owner (and the richest owner in baseball) Carl Pohlad has died at age 93.

They did not, however, report if he took a foreclosed farm with him.

@Steve_U: Yeah, thanks for asking (and remembering!). It was Criminal Procedure. The thing is, I have no valid excuses, cause it's ultimately not that difficult a class. I mean, there's only so much federal law on the subject. But I've got this issue with not giving a crap about school right now that is really slowing me down.

But I feel fine about it. Not an A and not a C. And I am fine with a B at this point...

@Theodore_Donald_Kerabatsos: It's pretty tough to give a shit at that point, I know the feeling. My approach to that class was to treat it as Law and Order Appreciation. The show is that much more entertaining when you realize how often they traipse all over the Constitution.

Jeff Van Gundy is fucking amazing. I don't care that he looks like a serial killer who is about to be put down by Dexter. He is absolutely brilliant.

This brings up a question I've had for awhile. NBA broadcast teams almost always involve ex-coaches, and the ex-coaches are invariably the best thing about the broadcast. Sometimes they really give you a better understanding of what's going on (Hubie Brown), sometimes they are fucking hilarious (Jeff Van Gundy), and sometimes they are unintentionally fucking hilarious (Doc Rivers). But it's always good.

The question is: why don't other sports do this? I can't think of a single ex-NHL, NFL, or MLB coach who does live game commentary. Wouldn't Andy Reid in the broadcast booth be amazing?
