That divorce is final as Calzaghe, 36, recovered from a bit of a surprise knockdown in the first to poke Jones, 39, into Bolivian (though we're partial to the Haitian divorce, ourselves). After the shakeup in the first round that sent Calzaghe to the mat, Jones didn't have much to do in the fight but bleed in one place. That 37th birthday is a bitch, we guess.

In the undercard, Zab Judah (of the KOGOD mancrush Judahs) pounded on Random Fighter #4 in a wide points decision. However, we recommend changing body lotions from Jergens to something used to cure meat; a little toughness on the epidermis wouldn't hurt.

<![CDATA[Fight Night: Roy Jones Jr. Takes On A Different Sort Of White Meat]]> Apologies to Joe Calzaghe, the man opposing Jones tonight, who just happens to be lightweight champion of the world. In tonight's matchup, Calzaghe chases down the big bag of money that the cachet of Jones still brings into the ring. For Jones, he'll get another shot at a title. Tonight's fight is on HBO PPV, which sounds kinda redundant at first, but then you realize...no, it's still redundant.

What Joe Calzaghe must do to remain light heavyweight champion of the world...Calzaghe, simply, must be Joe Calzaghe. He has to let his hands go, keep his paws in Jones' face, and not allow Jones time to breathe. He's not going to knock Roy out, because he doesn't hit hard enough.[...]

Jones is going to have to hurt Calzaghe to quiet his volume punching, and the question is whether or not the 39-year old Jones still has that type of pop. He was never a one-punch power guy, but in his glory days, his punches were so sudden, and came at such angles, and in such volume, that he was nearly unstoppable once he got on a roll. We've seen Calzaghe go down before, including against Hopkins. If Roy can land a loaded up counter shot, he can do it.

If recent history has taught us anything, it's that old people are still capable of doing good things. The word is that this will be a good fight, despite a weak undercard and the challenger being almost 40 years of age. If you were disappointed in the White Guy/Black Guy matchup earlier this week, consider tonight's fight a mulligan if it makes your feel better.

<![CDATA[Boxing Just Wants To Host Keggers]]> Boxing's popularity might be on the wane, to say the least (among white people, anyway), but Roy Jones Jr. is not afraid to be innovative. He's searching everywhere for an untapped base of fans, and he's even willing to join a frat to do it.

No, seriously: Jones is joining a frat to bring in fans. His logic is unassailable.

To further his celebrity and broaden his appeal, in August, Jones became an honorary member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. TKE is the largest social fraternity in the world with a presence on almost 300 college campuses in North America, and an initiated membership of over 220,000.

This is an interesting marketing strategy for the self-promoted Jones—give the guys in college a reason to watch boxing. The "hey, that's our fraternity brother" crowd could provide a buzz among a demographic that currently seems more interested in video games and drinking games—18 to 23 year old college students.

Because there's no better long-term strategy for boosting the prospects of boxing than counting on a bunch of guys to go, "Hey, that's our fraternity brother!" Heavens, he'd be crazy not to try.

<![CDATA[If You Can Make It There ...]]> We know that the obvious death of boxing has been thoroughly documented and dissected, but we kind of think this pretty much pushes it into the kitsch category.

Former all-world dominant boxer Roy Jones Jr., who grew so bored with his sport that he once played a semipro basketball game the day of a fight, will fight in Boise, Idaho on July 29. The night was officially supposed to be a "legends" card, with Virgil Hill and Evander Holyfield fighting, but apparently not even Idaho will give Holyfield a license.

Jones Jr., whose career has fallen through the floor in recent years, has lost his last three fights. This fight is at the Qwest Arena, which holds 5,000 people and hosts minor-league hockey games. In what has to be a first for anything ever taking place in Boise, the fight will be on Pay-Per-View.

It's worth noting, by the way, that the lead story in the Idaho Statesman right now is "High School 4A, 5A Softball All-Star Games Today." No, Roy, really, you're the King, you're on top.
