We know it hasn't been the most productive offseason for our beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and we feared they would, in the face of growing public criticism in the face of a new stadium, make a rash deal just to say they're doing something. But jeez: We didn't think they'd start paying guys by the pound.

Last night, the Cardinals signed Sidney Ponson to a one-year deal. In case you don't remember, Ponson had an active time last year: Two DUI arrests, 30 days in an alcohol rehab center and 11 days in an Aruba jail after punching a judge. It's an incentive-laded contract; we would certainly hope so.

Just for the record: The Cardinals brass told him Busch was just the name of the stadium, right? That wasn't one of the incentives, was it?

Bronson Arroyo: Now Officially A Rock Star

We were going to reveal the final of our three blind items today, but those crazy ladies at On The DL have something even better for today, so we're gonna hold off. They've put together a compendium of photos online of baseball players boozing and tarting it up with various "fans" across the country. Included are Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina, unemployed slob Sidney Ponson, Dodgers broadcaster-humper Derek Lowe and Red Sox "rocker" Bronson Arroyo, pictured above — and in this photo album — with a woman who is most definitely not his wife.
