Go to your local Home Depot, Lowes, etc and pick up a window insulation kit. SHould be about $20 or so. It goes on with a hair dryer and peels off in the spring. It seems simple but it creates a pocket of "insulating air" between the pane and the room.
If you have a dryer in your apartment keep the door shut on it.
The window kit and blanket (or door draft guard if you must purchase something fancier) will lower your bills 15-20% in the winter, so consider that when you think about conserving the heat inside. It is significant.

I have cats who like to sit on the windowsill and chase each other around. Are they likely to tear this window insulation and ruin all my hard work?

Even if you can only cover some windows (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, whatever) and leave them their favorite to play in it would help dramatically.
If you have ceiling fans make sure they are rotating to properly move the warm air off the ceiling and back to the floor.

Don't know how many of these you have seen, but all of these have at least one season on DVD and they are all amazing...
01/16/09
Sons of Anarchy on FX is a late addition to that list. The first season was spectacular.

Maybe Conn Smythe? God, that's depressing if that's our best option. Doug Gilmour? Frank Mahovlich? Joe Carter? Dave Stieb?

Oh no, if we're going in that direction, it's got to be a bust of a smiling Vince Carter giving us the finger with one hand while grabbing his ankle in pain with the other.

For sheer simplicity, I like the "just look at their completion percentage and number of starts". Obviously, there are outliers, but guys with fewer than 30 starts and sub-60% completion don't do so hot. Conversely, guys with 40+ starts and 65%+ completion generally have at least solid careers.

As for Stafford, he clocks in at 32 games (not sure if they're all starts), 544 of 987, for a career 55% completion rate.
I dug this up from The Google, analyzing 2007 prospects: [www.thephinsider.com]

@Kick His Ass Seabass: Nate Davis? No, he doesn't excite me, and having seen him play in person, and struggle somewhat with that awful CMU pass defense, he just does not impress me, but thats just my humble opinion.

@ClintonPortishead: unless you signed a contract that said you'd stick around a year, fuck 'em if you're unhappy there. It's not worth it to go in and be unhappy.
However, in this town, an advanced degree is beyond helpful. Once I'm back on board somewhere, the next thing I do is start some night classes. If I had a Masters, I'd have been in consideration for sooooo many more gigs by now.

There's a chance that Stafford will be a decent pro, but the odds are against him, and that's not a chance the Lions should even think about taking. Decision making doesn't get easier in the NFL, and I can't imagine Stafford making that leap.

The NDSU loss was inexcusable, but then again, Butch Jones is also fucking terrible head coach and that's what we get for hiring a fucking DeBord assistant and not Mike Locksley. Expect a return to the shittiness I knew in college once LeFevour, Brown, Anderson, et al are gone after next season.
01/15/09
@Jerkweezy: Yeah once they are all gone, the cupboard is bare, and the team will fall back into oblivion. On a related note, my neighbor up here is cousins with LeFevour, and he was around the other day while we all were coming back from break. Didn't talk to him at all, so I dont really know what he likes, though I did tell my neighbor to invite him over for a drink sometime.

@Jerkweezy: Eh, wasnt really that exciting, I've met and had conversations with bigger stars than him, mainly the Chicago Blackhawks and their broadcast team over the recent break. But it still would be cool to have a drink with the guy.
