The Pittsburgh-Tribune relays the grim tale:

Kenneth Hahey, 24, of Mt. Washington was charged with drunken driving after he was stopped in the South Side in January, according to Pittsburgh municipal court records. His blood alcohol level was .166, according to a police affidavit.

Steelers spokesman David Lockett said Hahey has been "released from his duties."

That wimpering sound you hear coming from across the Allegheny river are Kenneth Hahey's dreams dying.

<![CDATA[ Steely McBeam Gets Him Some Lady Lovin' ]]> steelersladies.jpgWhat is it about the Pittsburgh Steelers that women find so attractive? Is it The Dreamboat that is Ben Roethlisberger? The prospect of folding and laundering extra towels? The memory of this? The answers are shrouded in mystery. But the fact is that they just do: According to a recent marketing survey, Pittsburgh has, by far, the largest female fan base in the NFL.

Pittsburgh is the runaway leader, with 34 percent of the women living in the Steelers' market identifying themselves as fans. Green Bay was second with 29.4 percent, but no other market surveyed had even one-quarter of its women identify themselves as fans. Buffalo was third with 23.7 percent, followed by Cincinnati (22.8 percent), Kansas City (22.4 percent), Jacksonville (21.7 percent), Baltimore and Boston (21.5 percent) and Denver, Tampa-St. Petersburg and Washington, D.C. (20.9 percent).

Now, I have yet to see a survey that would determine the NFL team with the most attractive female fans, but a wild guess would be the Chargers. Last place? Um, the Titans? Missing teeth are a turnoff. At any rate, I'm sure that either Kige Ramsey or Berman are working on the data as we speak.

<![CDATA[ Pittsburgh's Week Of Shame ]]>
It has been more than 24 hours since the Steelers unleashed Steely McBeam onto the world, and their fans are far from making their peace with it.

Pittsburgh blogger Gene Bromberg is, in particular, struggling.

I'm totally pissed off and my pissed-offedness is a totally righteous one. What the HELL were these people thinking? The Pittsburgh Steelers are the paragon of no-frills, no-excuses, I'm-gonna-smash-your-head-in-all-the-live-long-day-football. Which pretty much sums up the city's attitude toward, well, everything.

And we have a frickin' mascot called STEELY MCBEAM?? This is UNACCEPTABLE. This must be STOPPED. We have to DO SOMETHING. My CAPS LOCK button is GOING TO BREAK SOON unless SOMETHING IS DONE.

To paraphrase Simmons, this would never happen if Bill Cowher were still alive.

<![CDATA[ The New Steelers Mascot Is FABULOUS ]]> steelymcbeam.jpgThe Pittsburgh Steelers. The Pittsburgh Steelers. They stand for might. They stand for strength. They stand for hard-working, old-fashioned, American blue-collar values. They stand for ... Steely McBeam!

Yes, the Steelers' new mascot is actually named Steely McBeam. They had a huge fan contest ... and that won. Steeler fans, prepare for an identity crisis.

The name and the character may take some getting used to. But move over Stevie Steeler and The Terrible Fan: The mascot named yesterday as part of the 75th anniversary season of the Steelers is ... Steely McBeam.

It almost felt like the football gods were frowning yesterday at the Steelers' training camp on this break from tradition — What's next? A steel-toed drill team? — but it turned out to be nothing more than a few raindrops and the rumble of distant afternoon thunder.

Many have pointed out the mascot looks vaguely like former Steelers coach Bill Cowher ... but go ahead and call Cowher "Steely McBeam," we dare you.
