Funny you compare Friedan to a sports writer, because I'm pretty sure she was supposed to play Oscar Madison on Broadway, until Simon found out she was female.
I've got to pose a serious question. Are these guys really doing legwork on facebook and myspace? Don't get me wrong, I used to work with a couple finance guys that would line up conference poon on myspace when heading out of town, but do athletes really need to prep? Couldnt they just grab something to go on their way out of the ballpark?
@redsoxchick: To be fair, I have not read any of those columns, but honestly, that is some degrading shit. He seems like he is very depressed, doesn't get laid, is pissed that athletes can pick any chick up any time they want and their wives need to get over it because that was the deal they made and the life they settled for when they married an athlete. Oh and jealous and depressed that it isn't him.
@J-No: What I think he is is the only sportswriter who accepts that athletes are people too, yet simultaneously believes in the sanctimonious tendencies of his profession. What happens is an interesting mix of "eh, live and let live" and "I am outraged!" It permeates through most of his writing.
@Chris Hanson's Axe: I get that they are human, but it almost comes across that they have no control over themselves or their choices. When in fact, they do or should, they are not 5, these are adults.
