Lost among the Goose Gossage Hall of Fame news was a statistical blip at the tail end of the complete voting results. Todd Stottlemyre (zero All-Star games, 4.27 ERA, 138-121 career record) received a vote. This means somebody, somewhere, look at the ballot and said "Todd Stottlemyre? A legend among men. One of the greatest pitchers we've ever seen. Reminds me of Nolan Ryan, only better."

The indispensable Fire Joe Morgan posted this audio-only YouTube video earlier this week featuring Stottlemyre, many years ago, sharing his insights as to why he lost his cool during a game, and I've listened to it about 20 times already. That number will only increase.

I really hope the guy who voted for him was the same reporter who asked him the question leading up to this clip. If that's the case, he's my dark horse for next year's Ford C. Frick Award recipient.

<![CDATA[ Elijah Dukes Blends Right Into Dominican Baseball ]]> If you thought Elijah Dukes would sit on his laurels and be happy with a first round SHOTY victory, then you sir, are a Rays fan praying to God he doesn't do anything stupid. Your prayers haven't been answered, but are very important to us and will be answered in the order they were received.

Dukes found himself in the middle of a Dominican league game and was thrown out for — get this! — arguing with the umpire, and chest bumping him a little. It measures just a 6.3 on the Dukes Intensity scale. But maybe it's society's fault. Literally:

It's not uncommon, however, for these games to become heated - and this one was between the league's top teams - with players jawing and fans screaming and throwing bottles onto the field, and umpires are quick to eject players in order to retain control.
This stuff's normal, huh?

Elijah Dukes: "Is this heaven?"

Licey: "... It's the Dominican Republic."
