    @toolcity: I appreciate your thoughtful response, but...bullshit. Show me one shred of "journalistic integrity" that came with the "You're with me, Leather" story. That sounds like unsolicited rumor-mongering for the sake of page view to me. There were many more like it at the time.

    I'm absolutely dumbfounded by the people that still think Leitch ran this thing like it was the god damned New York Times when he was the editor. Daulerio has much less of an "aw shucks" attitude, so he seems like a dick to some people.     I don't come to Deadspin for first-class, NYT-level journalism. There are numerous websites and newspapers that do that and do it well. I'd rather this site take chances than worry about screwing up or offending anyone. I come here to be entertained, and this site does that damn well.

    That being said, I would be lying if I said this one doesn't leave a sour taste in my mouth. Maybe because the discrepancy between the original account and the truth was so great, and because the original account came from someone who clearly ended up being an ass.

    Speaking of which: this idiot is getting off relatively scott-free while Deadspin has egg on its face. Why not out him by name?

    Look, those with sticks up their asses, it's a satirical sports blog designed to make light of sports happenings. Deadspin should not have to apologize for being a blog that occasionally gets a story wrong. This isn't an AP news outlet, and if something you read on here gets your panties in a bunch this badly then you should seriously look into re-prioritizing your life.     @Von Hayes: Deadspin amended the story, that's as far as they needed to go. If they want to send Murphy a personal message apologizing to him, that's cool. They don't owe readers an apology for posting something that ends up being incorrect. That's asinine. It's a blog that makes no bones about their purpose: laughs. That's it, they don't claim everything they write is 100% factual. If you want that, go to espn.com.

    Are you related to Murphy in any way? Did the story affect your life in any way? Or are you just feigning outrage because it seems like the right thing to do? I can't stand people who do that shit, and it appears it's a growing epidemic around here.

    My problem with this "bad coaches" feature is that, unlike the "why your stadium sucks" or "failgate" stories, people will write about their coaches by name. And if you're writing about your HS football coach (just as an example), he's probably got a wife and family who might see the post. More importantly, you're calling out someone who isn't a public figure and subjecting him to ridicule that might be unfair. If Deadspin ran the stories without naming names, I'd be more comfortable with the concept. That doesn't mean I won't read them anyway. #announcements
