Jelena Jankovic Perfects The Art Of Undermining Her Opponent
Jelena Jankovic, the split-happy, thunder-serving Serbian may have lost the U.S. Open to Serena Williams yesterday, but she won over some new fans. Williams' third U.S. Open title returned her to the number-one ranking player in the WTA, but that news was overshadowed by the bizarre post-match comments from Jankovic: More » -

U.S. Open Update: Scratching Your Djokovic
Dylan Stableford writes occasionally about tennis for Deadspin. It's called "Droppin' Deuce With Dylan Stableford."
Last night's heavyweight card at the U.S. Open—the best of this year's tourney by far—didn't disappoint. In a battle of big ball smackers with, as we've pointed out numerous times, incredibly hot girlfriends, Serbian impressionist Novak Djokovic outlasted Andy Roddick in front of his relatively reserved home crowd—Brooklyn Decker, new coach Patrick McEnroe, old coach Jimmy Connors, Regis Philbin (who spent crucial points in the third set reading a fucking book)— 6-2, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6, with a combination of hard angles and defensive lobs-turned-winners driven by, apparently, rage over some offhanded comments Roddick had made about Djovokic faking injuries. U.S. Open
Crisis Averted
You can rest easy, casual male tennis fans still reeling from the Ivanovic upset (C.M.T.F.S.R.F.T.I.U.s): Elena Dementieva and Jelena Jankovic are through to the next round of the U.S. Open. Dementieva easily advanced in straight sets over Anne Keothavang of...England? Really? Seems kind of Dutch to me. Meanwhile, Jankovic narrowly edged out Zheng Jie of our new athletic overlords, China, 7-5, 7-5, with a final game that took 28 points to complete. Jankovic also quickly put to bed any concerns over her lingering leg injury: "As long as I'm doing the splits, that means I'm healthy...I'm not too sure about my body if I go into a split, who knows if I'll come back up?" Let's see you do something with that, commenters. More » -

U.S. Open Update: Ivanovic Out, But Hot Girlfriend Boxes Intact
Dylan Stableford writes occasionally about tennis for Deadspin. It's called "Droppin' Deuce With Dylan Stableford." This week, he's at the U.S. Open, watching tennis and taking creepy pictures of Brooklyn Decker from afar.
Heading into the first weekend of the Flushing fortnight, we've lost one sultry Serb, but the bulk of the field—including a host of Americans—remains, thankfully for CBS, intact. Ana Ivanovic, the world's shakiest number one, was spanked by Julie Coin, a 188th ranked French qualifier, in three sets, leaving Elena Dementieva to carry the body butter on the women's side of the draw. Quiet, Please: U.S. Open Preview
Dylan Stableford writes occasionally about tennis for Deadspin. It's called "Droppin' Deuce With Dylan Stableford."It's that time of year again. A time when swaths of Serbians, blistering backhands, awkward celebrity interviews and nimble ball boys invade Queens. A time when tennis—tennis!—takes New Yorkers' attention away from the Mets, Yankees, Bret Favre, blogging and the Hamptons for two weeks. Here's what to expect during this year's Flushing fortnight. Shameless Tiger Woods Bashing
San Francisco Columnist Condemns Tiger's Idiocracy
Maybe it was time for one writer to stop slobbering over Tiger Woods' U.S. Open victory, but San Franciso Gate columnist Gwen Knapp appears to have gone a little overboard with her contrarianism. In her column titled " A golfing genius takes a dumb step", Knapp just levels Eldrick for his outright stupidity. Let's go to the lede: More » -

U.S. Open Playoff
The Most Disappointing Tiger Woods Victory In History
The seventh hole of Torrey Pines decided the fate of Rocco Mediate. Rocco said before the hole, "They wanted a show, they got a show." Indeed. It seemed before today's round, most of the experts were giving Rocco about as much a shot at beating Tiger as Matt Lauer. He proved everybody wrong. More » -
U.S. Open Playoff
After 18 Holes, It's Now Sudden Death At The U.S. Open
"You are watching one of the greatest U.S. Open championships in history..."In an interview before the final round, Rocco told NBC Sports that he would probably "just quit" if he won the U.S. Open. It's his favorite championship, but one that hasn't been too kind to him in the past. In fact, no majors have been kind to Rocco. And Tiger, who was supposedly unbeatable when he had the lead after three rounds, kept leaving plenty of opportunities for Mediate to have hope. More »

You Are Missing Some Serious, Serious Golf Drama
Rocco Mediate somehow managed to overcome a seemingly impossible three-stroke deficit on Tiger. Then it was two. Then it was one. Then... it was tied. More » -
U.S. Open Playoff
Rocco Cuts Into Lead, Still Nobody Seems To Think He Has Any Shot
As they approached the 12th hole at Torrey Pines, Johnny Miller and Dan Hicks appeared down on Rocco's chances. He'd lost a shot on ten, gained it back on 11, but, still, seems completely out of this thing down by two shots with six to go against Tiger. More »
