Why has noone mentioned that this is the Confederations Cup? It's basically a friendly tournament for the big teams. Only the small countries care about it. Yes beating Spain was minorly impressive but the level of competition was not exactly strong before that: New Zealand, South Africa and Iraq? Not to mention a considerably weak Italian team (basically a B team).
@kemperboyd: You're insane. No one was going to humiliate Blatter by bringing any less than an A team to the Confederations Cup. Samaranch in his heyday wishes he had the stroke Blatter has.
Please point me to the roster decisions that marked Italy as a B team, or for that matter Spain or Brazil.
Most American soccer fans don't care if the sport ever reaches a wider audience. It's the people who keep shouting "Soccer will never be popular!" that drive everybody nuts. Okay, fine, it will never be a huge sport in America. Duly noted, point conceded, etcetera etcetera.
@Gourmet Spud: At least English is, presumably, not his first language. There are more US dipshits on the internets that can't spell a word they supposedly learned in second grade, than can.
