Just got involved with holiday-type things. Would have loved to check out TCU/Boise, just slipped my mind. Planning on catching every second of 1/1, though, so I'm sure I'll be okay.
@DougOLis: DUDE! Girlfriend's uncle has season tickets, and after he met me and I passed some kind of test, he offered them to us. Apparently, they're on the 35-yard line, and they're over 300 bucks a pop.
@DougOLis: I know it. He's a very successful lawyer, so he's just got it like that. I sure as shit don't. Said he represented one Calvin Broaddus, way back when, as a court-appointed attorney. No matter where we're sitting, though, the atmosphere is going to be fucking awesome. It'll definitely make up for being three hours behind and missing just about every fucking bowl game.
Round 3 of 3 introductions to the families are complete. I think we are sufficiently acceptable to each others' kinfolk, which is certainly a nice to have.
Also, my grandpa kicks ass. Fresh off a double bypass and pacemaker installation, and still cranky as can be. Claimed I was cheating at a nickel card game because I had one more nickel than him. Crotchety ol' bastard.
So, I just spent all day reading Watchmen cover to cover. Believe it or not, this is the first time I've read a comic book/graphic novel, and it was fucking brilliant.
My question: where should I go from here? I've heard great things about Sandman. Is that worthwhile?
@Steve_U: fuck and yes. The three titans of graphic novels are as follows: Frank Miller, Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore. I also recommend Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (ignore the film, it's a travesty), Miller's The Dark Knight Returns and Miller's Batman Year One (The Dark Knight makes a lot more sense when you read those two). I trust several other commenters will chime in immediately to fill you in on whatever other essentials I just left out.
@Skating Tomato: Unfortunately, I've seen the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie, so my perspective on that may be hopelessly skewed.
Which makes me wonder: why would anyone ever think there would be any reason to make a movie out of Watchmen? They would necessarily have to drop all of the parallel narrative stuff (the pirate comic-within-the-comic, the book excerpts, etc.) that made it so great.
@Steve_U: let's put it this way: the actual LOEG graphic novel features the Invisible Man raping Polyanna. It is NOT the movie. as for the second point, I completely agree with you there but if Zach Snyder can pull this off, it will be a literary-turned cinematic feat on par with what Peter Jackson did with Lord of the Rings.
@Steve_U: IIRC, and I'm too lazy to find the links to it now, I believe they were saving the Pirates stuff as extras for the DVD or re-releasing the movie.

Why did you miss every bowl game? They still show them all here; just at a more reasonable time.
