All I know is that Redman and I would pay more attention to the women's tournament if they just went ahead and changed their name to the UConn Husky Ladies.
Geno should just go coach for a nice Catholic University. At least then when the subject of "white kids" arises, the prevalent thoughts will be the exact opposite of "soft."
Hey, Dash, we've had conversations about women's roundball before.
I may not have explained that it's G-E-N-O then, but I probably mentioned something about Auriemma being one of the least likable coaches in major athletics. That said, he's spot on here.
And UConn beating their next two opponents by 30 seems like an unlikely prospect, because they haven't won on in the Tournament by more than 30 since the first round game with Nobody A&M. 20, maybe, but 30 seems ridiculous, especially since Stanford's been excellent in the Tournament and will not be scared of the Huskies, as the last team to beat them, long ago, in a time when Candice Wiggins was still in Palo Alto.
Now, the final, which would be against teams the Huskies have bombed by 28 and 28/39, might be a better chance for a runaway. But Stanford's going to keep this relatively close. That might mean 15, or single digits, but it'll be closer than you think.
Thus ends my daily defense of women's college hoops.
I used to know some girls who played for Geno. He's kind of a jerk. Just kind of a cold guy. Comes with the territory, I guess.
I like womens' hoops. They can play. It may not have the flash of the men's game, but it's good basketball. And Simmons or any other jackass who thinks he and his posse of average joes could take an elite college team or WNBA is full of crap. Based on their conditioning alone, they would destroy your average group of guys in a pickup game.
