Remember how I said that Versus stole a march on ESPN back when TCU played BYU and Florida State was playing N.C. State on Thursday October 16? Yeah, it's happened again. Only this time the game is on CBS College Sports. Which, if you're like me, you don't get on your television package because Comcast doesn't carry the channel. Or even allow you to purchase the channel for more money. Awesome. None of that changes this fact though: The Mountain West Thursday night game is infinitely more interesting than the ACC game. Between them TCU and Utah have 18 wins and a single road loss at Oklahoma. Meanwhile Maryland and Virginia Tech are driving their fans insane. Neither fan base has any clue what to expect tonight, or any night for that matter, this season. More »

Back when I wrote that I couldn’t wait to watch the BYU-TCU game, I meant it. Completely. But what I forgot was that I’d be on the road in a hotel room. I don’t know why it is but hotels have the most erratic cable channel selections known to man. If you’re anything like me you’ve found yourself lying on a bed, flipping through the channels, gradually getting more and more desperate as you realize that despite the fact you can buy a porn movie called, Ugly Chicks And Guys with Small Dicks (also known as the state of Ohio summed up in seven words) the hotel doesn’t carry something like ESPN 2. Back in 2004, I went to a friend’s wedding on the same day as UT at Ole Miss. (This was in the days back when my team was decent.) You haven’t seen anger until you’ve gone back to your hotel room and realized the hotel doesn’t carry ESPN 2. Unless, that is, you’ve ordered a porno movie for $14.99 and it’s soft core. So I was pretty much resigned to the fact that Versus wouldn’t be included in my cable’s television package. Then, miraculously, it was. So I got to watch BYU at TCU. And now we know that BYU is done for BCS purposes thanks to their 32-7 loss that was never close. Most amazing stat of the game? BYU rushed 28 times for 23 yards. That TCU run defense is unbelievable. So now we start the one-loss team handicapping. Because this year’s BCS Title Game isn’t going to feature any undefeated teams. Count on it. I suppose even the genius who schedules Thursday night games at ESPN is entitled to a mulligan. That's the only explanation for how Florida State at N.C. State ended up tonight's featured game. N.C. State is 2-4 and Florida State is 4-1. N.C. State has taken down William and Mary and East Carolina, Florida State has looked decent except for the offensive implosion against Wake Forest. But Wake is an ACC juggernaut who has beaten FSU three times in a row so we're supposed to forgive that flaw. FSU opened as a 12 point favorite over N.C. State and let's be clear, I'm not even going to pretend this is the most interesting game tonight. Because it isn't remotely close to as good of a game as BYU at TCU. Even if "Jeopardy!" stud Ken Jennings thinks BYU sucks. More »
