Well, this is very sad: Oklahoma State's women's basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant Miranda Serna died in a plane crash in Perry County, Ark., on Thursday night. There were no survivors in the crash, which also killed the pilot of the plane and another individual not directly affiliated with the university. Last night, Muffet McGraw earned her first career win over Pat Summitt. The Notre Dame women had lost 20 straight games to the Tennessee Volunteers before McGraw's squad — led by its phenomenal sophomore guard, Skylar Diggins — defeated the No. 1 Vols 73-59 in Dayton last night. This was a bittersweet moment for women's college hoops: With it, we lose out on what would have been the first UConn-Tennessee/Geno-Pat matchup in over four years, but at the same time we're treated to a rare moment of mild parity on the distaff side. A No. 2 seed actually defeated a No. 1 seed to reach the Final Four, and in the women's game that's pretty close to a No. 11 seed beating a No. 1 seed to reach the Final Four. Ebony Gainey joined the University of Dayton women's basketball team four years ago but had never played in a game until this past Saturday, when the Flyers wrapped up their regular season with a 69-51 victory over Fordham. She was diagnosed with a heart condition just before her freshman year that kept her from playing, but remained on the team roster as an assistant for all four years. On senior day, she started the game and scored her first and only basket of her college career with this driving layup. And now for some lesbian lawsuit news: Jennifer Colli, a former point guard for the Lady Mustangs is suing her former team because she feels like she received unfair treatment from her coach due to her relationship with a teammate. Colli says she was aggrieved by "inappropriate questions and comments" regarding her sex life from her coach Rhonda Rompola. Now, Colli's suing the school for $2 million and $450, 000 in attorney's fees over the perceived slight. The origins of the lawsuit come from an initial team meeting Colli attended as a freshman, where she says Rampola spent the bulk of the time talking about how much she "disapproved" of intra-squad coital relations and very little about basketball.
