My mom's side of my family lives in Bellevue and Kamano Island. I went to a lot of games at the Kingdome when I was a kid, so I have a soft spot for the Mariners. Actually, the majority of my memorabilia is Cards and M's. But anytime my Yankees friends bring up A-Rod, the M's fan in me kicks in. My two favorite players of all-time are Ozzie and Edgar. Aside from Old Busch and New Busch, SafeCo is the most amazing stadium I've ever seen.

I'll say this about XM: the reception and the equipment are both phenomenal. The thing that tipped me toward XM was the XMPCR, which is a unit that can connect to and is controlled by your computer; being able to scroll through a list of everything that's playing, have an unlimited list of favorite artists and tracks, and run it through my computer speakers (which are better than any other stereos I have), was a dealbreaker. I almost, almost went with Sirius, because they have Vin Scelsa and football, but XM it was, and I've been more than happy with it.

If you ever do find yourself wanting to get XM, let me know. I've got a few extra receivers lying around that I'd be more than happy to donate to the cause.

True college stations, the kind that are all-student-run, tend to be very hit-or-miss. Like, there's some good stuff, but there's also some random collections of screaming that the DJ happens to like. The trick is to find stations that are part of a university, but professionally run. The music industry in general, just drives me completely fucking batty, because they could be sitting on top of the goddamned world right now if they'd have had the foresight a few years ago to embrace this crazy "internet" thing. I mean, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with that, and the idea of a company like Live Nation in concert venues doesn't bother me as much as a company like Clear Channel in the radio industry does. Live Nation can grab all the acts they want, but there will always been independent music venues and bands willing to play at them. On the other hand, radio bandwidth is a much scarcer resource. Live Nation buying Irving Plaza doesn't really affect the overall music scene in New York, but Clear Channel having a bunch of radio stations makes it that much harder to find non-Top 40 music.
