So my weekly CFB guest-post on Deadspin was published yesterday morning, anticipating that the AP or Coaches' pollsters would keep Michigan in the Top 25. I have never been happier to be wrong: Both the AP and the coaches booted Michigan out of the Top 25.

Cal didn't need to move up any spots. they get to play USC later in the season. If they beat them, then call for them to get a shot at the title.

Again, I am sorry to have picked on Ohio State specifically. I should have taken my rant to a wider audience and just vented about how teams in the BCS conferences should only be allowed to play a 1-AA opponent once every two years. Period. End of story.

I am just sick of seeing pansies scheduled by the majority of the Top 25 teams for the first 3 or 4 weeks of the season.

The BCS is a crock, but as long as it's around, this will not change. Ranked teams get bonuses for running up the score against much weaker opponents and that sucks eggs.

Cal ran up 45 points on one of the best teams in the SEC and still only moved up 2 spots in the polls. The reason they only moved up two spots? The rest of the Top 10 teams faced teams that guaranteed them a victory and almost assured their spot remains secure.

Again, I am NOT a Michigan fan. I have no loyalties to a college football program (I graduated from NMSU, so any school ties are out).

I just would like to see teams that have a legit shot at the national title EARN that spot.

And may or may not have a home and home with Cal. Those teams are pretty good. Then they fill out the rest with in-state schools which are usually pretty decent.

Look, there are other Top 25 teams that load their schedule with easy wins, but I chose Ohio State. The overriding problem not that Ohio State specifically takes the cupcakes, but that a lot of Top 25 teams load their schedule with games that have no business being played.

For the record, I graduated from NMSU, so I understand what it means to be a fan of the patsy on the other side of the lopsided scoreboard. It's great revenue for the school, but what does it prove? Ohio State SHOULD beat Akron by 40 points next week. Anyone who is interested in seeing that should be ashamed.

At least Cal opened its schedule with a Top-25 team and chose legit Div-1A teams as its other opponents. There should be more of that in college football and fewer games against doormat football teams.

Hey Dan - While you seem to be on your college football is a joke rant, why not take the next step and rail against teams like Ohio State that schedule football powerhouses like Akron, Youngstown State and Kent State to fluff up their records.

Losing to Appalachian State may have been embarassing for Michigan, but App State hasn't lost in over a calendar year and are the reigning 1-AA national champions.

Akron was 5-7 last season. Kent State was a thrilling 6-6.

I am sorry to pick on Ohio State because it makes me look like a Michigan homer. I am not. I just picked them because their schedule is notoriously filled each year with more cupcakes than my daughter's birthday parties.

A Top 25 team that faces a 1-AA opponent should be PENALIZED in the standings, even if it does win.

ECU matched up extremely well against Tech, and they were even a bowl team last year. This is too strange when I think about VT's scheduling in the past about playing non-cupcake schools this early. Its funny...these past few years Tech has been completely stacked at WR for the first time ever (they're used to only having 1.5 WR's with 1 good possession TE and possession FB to dump off to). But it doesn't matter since their pass protection has NEVER been good as far as I can remember, even all the way back to the Vince Dooley days. They've just managed to get away with it recently due to the black QB phenomenon.
