I live in Baltimore. Ten dollars is the minimum price for the minimum quantity of heroin. Every panhandler sob story just happens to be solved with $10. People are constantly offering to do odd jobs, but never for less than $10. Cleaning my windshield? Ten dollars. Shoveling the 12 feet of sidewalk in front of my rowhome? Ten dollars. Offer anything less than ten, and watch them disappear.

In 1987 I made $7.00 an hour as a switchboard operator at Filene's. I would hope that 20 years later folks would make more money for doing more work than I did back then.

You couldn't pay me enough to do what those people do. But I DO wonder about the other parks. Why is Angelos getting singled out when, chances are, this is going on across the board in MLB?

Incidentally, any time I'm at Fenway, the cleaners are everywhere, before during and after the games. These folks work their asses off and do a lot more than just "bend over and pick up a piece of trash".

After reading this post, the article sourced in this post and the comment thread; I think the readers may not have all of the necessary information to draw a fair conclusion. I would like to add some additional details from the source article.

Baltimore's official living wage is $9.62 per hour. The $7.00 per hour earned by the stadium employees is a poverty wage and is against the policy of the state, which is to pay all day laborers a living wage.

The Maryland Stadium Authority (MSA) employs the stadium personnel and claims that the workers are exempt because they are not day laborers but temporary workers; designated as such, because they do not work the "away" games. The UWA has tried for 3 years to get the MSA to pay their employees a living wage.

On October 1, 2007, Maryland's new living wage law will require government contractors to pay their employees $11.30 per hour. (Stadium employees included.)
