Wow, you get on a plane and see what you miss?

Also noteworthy regarding the theory...Sox go up 1-0 in the series (sorta like the Yanks going up 3-0 in '04) and everyone is talking shoe-in ALCS champs (just like those aforementioned Yanks). And now they're about to drop 4 in a row (more Yankee similarity) to choke out. The Sox domination in the Division Series is just an abbreviated version of the Yankess historical post-season success. The Red Sox have accelerated the whole process...WS champs ('04) to post-season domination ('07 ALDS) to total collapse ('07 ALCS).

I would also argue that to some degree the Yankees have attained the "loveable loser" status the Red Sox used to have...validating the "swapping roles" aspect of the theory. I know a lot more people today that are sympathetic to the Yankees/their fans than I did just a few years ago. The transformation isn't entirely complete (Yanks still have a tremendously bloated payroll)...but I'd bet that by the end of this offseason as the Yanks unload some salary/FAs the "swap" will have continued to progress.

I think it is the national media overexposure that has turned me off the Red Sox. I used to root for them before '04 and even after. I was happy for them, their fans, and always felt a certain kinship to them. Now they are constantly on tWWL like that is all anyone gives a shit about. I think a lot of baseball fans are sick to death of the Braves, Yankees, and Red Sox. I will watch every game if it turns out to be Cleveland and the Rockies. If it is the Red Sox, I might have to do it witht he sound off.

I'm really not sure how the Sox have "become" the Yankees. Where was this meme when the swept the Angels on the back of two dominating starts and tremendous pen work in Dice-K's start (yeah, and timely home runs, but also sac flies, doubles, etc)? It's already been pointed out that the Sox had the best starters ERA and pen ERA in the regular season. What's happened is that Cleveland has come through when opportunities have presented themselves, the Sox haven't, and the breaks that make the difference in a 7 game series have mostly (so far) gone Cleveland's way. As a Sox fan, I'm disappointed, but the sky is not falling, they have a very young pitching staff coming back next year and they absolutely can win 3 in a row.

That said, Dustin Diamond is, and always will be my favorite Dustin. Last night's slappy play just cements it.

I have quite the conundrum. I'm a Mets fan, so my natural instinct is to hate the Yankees. That being said, I find myself hating to Bloody Sox even more due to the high level of douchbaginess of their entire fan base. Does this make sense?

Granted, if I had to pick between the Yankees or the Sox winning the ALCS, I'd hope for a meteor.

Like 2004 when the Sox were down 3-0 to the Yankees, they'll just need this very next game (behind Beckett) to make it intesting again... I still think they send it back to Boston (where everyone is a dick/douchebag/racist) and Schilling saves the day in Game 6 - again, a la 2004... then Game 7 is up-for-grabs.

Everyone thought this would go to 7, certinaly no one thought they would just trade games to get there.

Also - way to steal the Steelers terrible towel thing, Cleveland. Aren't they a rival city of yours for football? Have you no shame - and not a single hot woman to show in the crowd?

Good point. It's interesting how success changes things. Money is more readily available and fans expect more of the same, but from the players' standpoint, it must be hard to stay motivated after all of the buildup leading up to the World Series and the letdown afterwards.
