I'm not entirely sure most fans even get what Bo meant when he said the thing about the Michigan man coaching Michigan. He didn't literally mean you must have connections, he just meant someone who loved the program (i.e. not Bill Frieder)

Frieder had more Michigan connections then Fischer, but that wasn't the point. Bo would say the same thing today: Just find a coach who loves the university and will run the program with class and integrity. It just so happens that in this case Les Miles is the only candidate who really reveres the university.
