I mean, the various polls made a conscious decision to have LSU number 2 so that they would play in the championship game--if they had thought Georgia or Oklahoma was more worthy, wouldn't they have put them on the ballot ahead of LSU? It's not the same as 2003, where USC as #1 in the AP poll didn't get into the championship game, so I see this as unlikely regardless of the result.

@Signal to Noise: The Rose Bowl didn't have the option of taking California that year. There were only two at-large spots available and, according to the BCS rules at that time, Utah and Texas were guaranteed those spots. When Texas leap-frogged Cal into the #4 spot they automatically qualified under the "Kansas State Rule", which says that any team who doesn't win their conference championship but finishes in the top four of the BCS gets an at-large.

That said, the Rose Bowl is stupid for taking Illinois over Georgia this year.

They played the same number of games as everyone else (12). In my opinion, the Big Ten has found out how to "work" the BCS by starting early and not having a bye week. It works because the BCS favors early losses to late ones.

Just think, the 3 weeks of playoff fun in January would take away from the months of fun we've had watching teams like WVU and Mizzou and KU.
It was awesome, and I hope they keep the system the exact same way it was.

Unless you have two teams that should be included in a Pac-12, it doesn't work. You don't need a conference championship if you play all the teams in it each year.

Mizzou got dicked, badly. They beat Kansas, in the only game with any sort of strength of schedule that the Jayhawks played all season, and they're out of the BCS.
