The only realistic way for college football to work is an English promotion/relegation model. There would be multiple national champions every year, as schools like Missouri capture the Tier 2 title to advance to Tier 1. There would have to be laws regulating how many lower Tier games you could play, exceptions for rivalries like Michigan/Minnesota. Obviously since that has no chance of happening, there's no point in putting out ABSOLUTE SHIT like this.

Also, Tebow will make a nice NFL fullback in a few years.

It's hard to argue: No sophomore -- and few players ever, regardless of class -- have ever put together the resume Tebow already has: Most Valuable Offensive Player on a national champ and a Heisman season defined by unprecedented numbers for a college football quarterback.

I know no one is going to read this because its so after the fact, but Herchel had that resume. He led the team to a title his freshman year. Finished 3rd, 2nd and 1st in Heisman voting and his team won the conference all 3 years and were a bowl loss away (to Dan Marino) from winning a 2nd title.

Umm, not to pop ya cherry, Shanoff, but I'd add Cullen Harper (QB-Clemson) to that shortlist for 08. If Tommy the dope hires a special teams coach, Clemson may win the ACC. Harper put up huge numbers and may have been a better QB than Matt Ryan this year in his first season as a starter. Both Davis and Spiller should return and the defense is usually good.

Also, my Wofford Terriers beat App State this year and would beat 'em in the FCS playoffs if not for those meddling Spiders.

@That-Dude: I think the plan would have them be home games for the higher seeded team. They'd likely draw much better. Not sure about the ratings - there would be more at stake though - so they might be higher. The Bowl games are done by independent promoters though - so even if there was less revenue - the schools, conferences, NCAA could see more of it, as they wouldn't have to split anything with the promoters. Also - the play-off games would allow more Hugh Johnson style dick jokes. (Probably.)

@ArkansasFred: Percy Harvin is BETTER than Reggie Bush.

He doesn't return kicks; that's probably a good thing, considering UF has a great returner in Brandon James and Harvin has some fragility issues.

But he does everything else, as a runner and receiver; he makes the offense go, moreso than Tebow, and he's athletic enough to fit almost anywhere on the field.

The blueprint for beating the Gators this year? Limit Harvin; he had over 100 yards in the Auburn game thanks to two big bombs, but was held to only 19 rushing yards; against LSU, he had less than 70 total yards; against Georgia, he tallied almost 100 yards on the ground, but could only muster two catches for 41.

Tebow gets his stats because the offense is designed for big chunks of yardage, then indefensibility near the goal line, the nightmare "12-on-11" scenarion announcers bray about.

But Harvin is the spark plug to Tebow's engine.

(The anomaly here is Tebow's 7 TD game against South Carolina. Harvin missed it, but the 'Cocks' porous defense couldn't have stopped Percy Weasley.)

Also, the Big 10 and Pac 10 already had to recruit against the other conferences with no chance of being in the game set up to be the title game. It was called the Bowl Coalition and then the Bowl Alliance. It was still in existence like 10 years ago. The Big 10 and Pac 10 still recruited just fine -- split national title for Michigan, the NFL Machine that was Ohio State in the 1990s under Cooper, the 1994 Penn State team that at least arguably had a claim to a split title.

Somehow I don't see the country rallying around an NCAA football champion. Even if there was a 115 team playoff (Unless one of those teams changes it's name to the University of U.S.A. Flag Waving Ass Kickers).

Maybe some people would be all stoked by it, but I'm thinking that within two weeks of January 1, most people would be ready for March Madness. Just a hunch.
