Imagine you've spent your life struggling to become an actor. Since the age of seven you've attended theater workshops, taken elocution lessons, dance lessons, performed off-off-Broadway; hell, you've even paid your dues at some godforsaken dinner theater two miles outside of Sheboygan. To pay the bills you'd toil in various restaurants and retail stores. To save some cash to pay for head shots you've dined on more Ramen noodles than you'll ever care to remember.

The proudest moment of your life was landing a brief speaking role in a commercial for fabric softener -- and not even the top-shelf fabric softener either, some second-tier shit you're not even certain they sell anymore.

Then your mediocre excuse for an agent leaves you and answering message one day out of the blue, saying you've been offered a part in a children's program. Nothing big, but noticeable. Without hesitating you accept and prepare yourself: remembering your breathing exercises, characterization techniques, facial expressions, etc.

When you arrive on set, Wardrobe dresses you up to look like a white, skinny, middle-aged version of Rerun from What's Happening?. You are placed in front of a green screen and given direction such as "Look happy and gives a thumbs-up! No, happier! Happier still! Now march in place with that same blissfully stupid gaping smile on your face! OK, cut! That's a wrap, people." No lines, just a check for one day's worth of scale, and back to the apartment you share to three other struggling actors.

At what point after viewing what it is you helped create do you think about your life, grab a bottle of Excedrin PM, and wash it down with a fifth of Maker's Mark? I'm just curious.

Pictures are always good, 20Q is almost always interesting, but some of it is just painful to read. They haven't broken a big story in a long time. Even though I don't agree with their editorial stance very much, they really DID have a big effect on the sexual revolution.

I get a ton of magazines for free. The one that I enjoy the most, and actually pay for, is Esquire.
