Playing time doesn't make you a good announcer/analyst by any stretch (Hi Emmitt, you doll you...). However, far more often than not, the analysts without playing time can hang their hat on, well, *nothing* in terms of credibility or insightfulness.

At least the Emmitt Smith's and Eric Dickerson's of the world of sports casting can stagger over the English language having done something on the pitch. It's even entertaining to mock. Costas? He can be short and still say nothing while kissing a bunch of establishment ass... I'm underwhelmed.
