It might not — yet — have the online fanaticism and cachet of baseball, but the NFL and its fans are starting to catch up in the world of team-devoted blogs. To this end, Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each NFL team. There are fewer than there are for baseball, but they're out there, if you look. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours, even) for selection, just let us know at email@example.com. Today: The New York Giants.
We know what you're thinking. It's the question you've been dying to ask: "You know the New York Giants helmet logo? What font is that, anyway?"
Sure, everyone's curious. But we'll get to that later. First, it must be pointed out that the New York Football Giants, as they are officially known, are something of a misnomer. They are not really from New York (based in New Jersey), and they are not actually giants. Original owner Tim Mara borrowed the name from the New York baseball team, which had originated it in 1885 (previously they had been known as the Gothams). Famed since for three NFL titles and two Super Bowl crowns, the Greatest Game Ever Played, and of course The Sneakers Game. Also they are the only known franchise to be famous for supposedly having someone buried in their home stadium. Let's see — in which end zone is Jimmy Hoffa again?
Giants fans are also notable for the fact that they are omnipresent on the Internet. Here are three of the best blogs. Oh, sorry ... wait. Helmet logo. We don't know. OK, on with the blogs.
3. Giants Huddle. Not a true blog, but not really a news site either. A nice blending of both.
2. NY Giants Football News. Whenever a blog starts running whole posts on the subject of salary cap space, you know they're in it for the long haul.
1. Giants 101. The Giants blog most often mentioned by fans on the Internet. A great one.
