Briony Ingerson is a reporter for Fox Sports in Australia, and until recently she apparently did not know that wearing blackface was a shitty and racist thing to do.
That’s Ingerson and an unnamed friend in the picture above, which was posted to Ingerson’s Instagram account a few months ago. As you can divine from the caption, Ingerson and her pal decided it would be a good idea to wear blackface as a way to celebrate their friend’s appearance on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! Because that show takes place in the jungle, and black people live in the jungle, or something. Get it?
The picture went unnoticed until yesterday, when a former Fox Sports intern who had worked with Ingerson pointed it out on Twitter.
Ingerson has since deleted the photo from her Instagram account, and publicly apologized. From the Sydney Morning Herald:
“I’m deeply upset that my Instagram post offended people in the community,” she said. “That was not my intent; it was a very poor error in judgement and I now understand how inappropriate it was.
“The post has been removed and I offer my sincere apologies to those that were hurt by it.”
