Corey Kluber was a very good pitcher last year. So good, in fact, that he won the American League Cy Young award, narrowly edging out Felix Hernandez. This season, though, has been a very different story.

Going into tonight’s game against the Cardinals, Kluber was 0-5 with a 5.04 ERA. But in case you thought that whole Cy Young thing was just a fluke, Kluber gave us an impressive reminder of how good he is when he’s on. The final tally? Eight innings, one hit, 18 strikeouts, one win. The last time an AL pitcher had so many strikeouts was 1998, when Roger Clemens also had 18.
