Forty hotels and casinos along the Las Vegas strip dimmed their lights for three minutes last night in tribute to the memory of former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian, who passed away on Feb. 11. Reader David sends along this video he shot, as all non-essential lights were turned off upon the end of the Rebels' game against Boise State.
It's a rare honor. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, the strip has only gone dark eight times before: for the deaths of John F. Kennedy, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, George Burns, Frank Sinatra, and Ronald Reagan; after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks; and for Earth Hour in 2009.
