Gonzales (1-0, 4.22 ERA) is scheduled to return to the mound for the first time since April 8 when the Mariners wrap up a three-game interleague series with the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday afternoon
"I think I had a pretty good reason," Gonzales said of missing his last start. "I've got another cheerleader in my corner."
Gonzales is 2-0 with a 6.75 ERA in three career appearances against Milwaukee, including two starts.
The Brewers plan to counter with fellow left-hander Eric Lauer (2-1, 5.28), who will be facing Seattle for the first time

"They've got a good club," Mariners manager Scott Servais said of the Brewers. "They shut us down there. We've done that to teams in the past as well. But you need to find a way to create a little bit more offense there. We put the one inning together and that was it until we started with a man on second in the 10th
"The consistency offensively hasn't been there. We've had a certain game here or there where we'll put something together and get a couple guys going, but it wasn't there tonight, for sure."
For the second straight game, the Brewers had a player walk off the field with a member of the training staff. On Monday, starting pitcher Corbin Burnes was pulled in the sixth inning due to a left pectoral strain
On Tuesday, center fielder Garrett Mitchell left in the 10th inning after unsuccessfully trying to throw out Kolten Wong at the plate on Ty France's sacrifice fly.
Mitchell immediately dropped to his knees in pain after making the throw.
"I mean, it's a right shoulder issue," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. "It's a situation where he'll fly back with us (Wednesday) and we'll have him get checked out by the doctor.
Burnes said he overextended while applying an inning-ending tag on a pickoff in the fourth inning Monday. He sounded optimistic on Tuesday that he would be able to make his next scheduled start.
"I woke up generally sore, but nothing crazy," Burnes said. "It doesn't even feel like a pec, maybe it was more along the lines of a sternum or a rib or something, and I was overcompensating with the pec. I'll continue with the work here and be back to playing catch (Wednesday), and then we'll know for sure. ...
"We probably got away with something before it became more serious."
