According to figures just released by HBO, there is no money left in the world, because it was all spent on watching Floyd Mayweather win a very boring decision over Manny Pacquiao two weeks ago.
Here are the fight’s official pay-per-view numbers, from an HBO press release:
The boxing blockbuster event, Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, shattered the previous record for total pay-per-view buys and now ranks as the highest-grossing pay-per-view of all time. Initial reports from distributors indicate that the event generated more than 4.4 million U.S. buys and more than $400 million in domestic pay-per-view revenue alone.
That is an insane amount of pay-per-view buys, and that number makes this the most lucrative fight in the history of the sport. The previous record, set in 2007 when Mayweather fought Oscar De La Hoya, was 2.48 million buys. The next highest-grossing fight happened in 2013, when 2.25 million buys were made for the Mayweather-Alvarez fight.
Anyway, get excited for that rematch!
