
San Diego Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove is going to miss time after sustaining a fractured left big toe in a weight room accident, the club confirmed Tuesday.
The Padres said the incident happened Monday and did not divulge a recovery timeline.

Musgrove, 30, is coming off his first All-Star campaign in 2022 and was expected to open the season as the team's No. 2 starter behind Yu Darvish.
Musgrove signed a five-year, $100 million contract extension in August. He went 10-7 with a 2.93 ERA in 30 starts last season. He also made three starts in the postseason, going 1-1.

Musgrove is 50-54 with a 3.79 ERA in 170 career games (144 starts) for Houston (2016-17), Pittsburgh (2018-20) and the Padres.
