Nebraska pass rusher Randy Gregory is a first-round talent who wasn’t selected in the first round, almost certainly due to vague mental-health concerns. Despite showing up in Chicago and sticking around all night just to not hear his name called, Gregory claims he’s gotten some great motivation out of the snub.
Of course, every player who drops claims that same motivation. But damned if I’m not rooting for him to follow through, if only because this quote, given to Yahoo’s Rand Getlin, is an excellent, excellent quote:
“I didn’t sleep last night because I feel like I let my family and the people who believe in me down, and I’m sorry for that. But I’m going to use this as fuel.
“The franchise that drafts me won’t have to worry about me off the field, but the teams that didn’t select me will have to worry about me on the field.”
