Here is a free piece of advice for all aspiring high school athletes: attacking the head coach will hurt, not help, your chances of making the team.
Ron Aydelott, the head football coach of Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was attacked in his office this morning by a 17 year-old-student who said he wanted to try out for the team. Principal Tom Nolan tells The Tennessean that, from there, things went dramatically south:
“(Aydelott) basically just got attacked,” Nolan said. “The kid just went nuts on him. Coach Aydelott was sitting down at his desk and the guy just kept whaling on him.
“He finally stopped. The kid then walked into the office, put his hands behind his back and surrendered.”
The student was arrested by the school resource officer, and charged with aggravated assault. Aydelott “sustained severe facial injuries” in the attack, and was taken to the hospital for surgery.
