BetRivers is one of the more reputable online sportsbooks and it operates across North America in both Canada and the USA. In this article though, I’m specifically creating a BetRivers Alberta review.
Due to the recent change in gambling laws in the Province, online sportsbooks are now legal, and BetRivers Alberta was one of the first to launch. Since that time, I’ve been working hard to see what it offers for the average Canadian bettor and you can read on to find out more information and my recommendations.

Now, I’m familiar with the BetRivers brand. But, I wanted to do this BetRivers Alberta review properly, so I still made sure the sportsbook was legit and that it had all the basic features I expect. This included a gambling license, multiple support methods, great security and transparency, and a diverse banking setup. I also made sure to check the responsible gambling tools they offer so that Canadian customers can stay in control.
BetRivers Alberta is the real deal – it is a legitimate, licensed online sportsbook that works under regulation from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC). I found the licensing details in the website footer, and I then went on to check the official license details via the AGLC page – everything was as I expected, with the license being active at the time I wrote this guide.
There is also plenty of company information relating to the parent brand, and from what I can see, BetRivers is owned and operated by Rush Street Interactive LLC. Similar to how things work in Ontario, there is also the Alberta iGaming Company, which is generally responsible for the direction, activity, and growth of the Alberta online gambling industry, and BetRivers operates with permission from them.
While I’ve been reviewing betting apps in Alberta, I’ve tested the customer support options for each site. For BetRivers Alberta, they offer a live chat, help center, and email support. I was most impressed with the help center as this opens in a separate window, and it actually has a heap of detail relating to your account, deposits and withdrawals, responsible gambling, and the sportsbook itself.
I used the help center a few times to find information about the different banking methods and payment setup, for example. If you want to speak to someone though, you’ll need to stick with the live chat or email. The latter works as expected – you get an automated reply acknowledging your email, and then from my experience, I usually get a reply within 24 hours.
Alternatively, if you use the live chat, there’s the potential to speak to someone in minutes. I tested it four times, and the average response time was 4-5 minutes which is on par with the other Alberta betting sites I’ve tested recently. The support reps were helpful, knew their stuff, and were able to resolve my queries quickly.
Next, I turned my attention to the security and transparency of the brand. The first thing I noticed was active SSL encryption which means data transfers are protected from hackers. At the time I wrote my BetRivers Alberta review, there was an active SSL certificate provided by Google Trust Services.
SSL was just one thing – the site also uses geoblocking to prevent people from outside the Province accessing it. I also saw that there’s a full KYC process including multiple layers of verification before you can access all of the site’s features. Lastly, you can check out documentation relating to the brand’s operations – this includes things like a privacy policy, your privacy choices, terms or service, and sports betting rules.
Payments can vary depending on your account, but I was able to use a solid selection of methods which included MasterCard, Visa, PayPal, Venmo, PayNearMe, and Bank Transfer. From my experience, the minimum deposit and withdrawal limits were either $5 or $10, and I was never charged any payment fees for deposits or withdrawals.
For withdrawal processing times, this will depend on which method you chose, But, the max it should take is 2-5 business days for Bank Transfer. The other methods offer much quicker processing, with options like PayPal and Venmo taking a maximum of 30 minutes. Just be aware that if you haven’t already done the KYC process, it may be requested before you can make your first withdrawal.
I was pleased to see that BetRivers Alberta takes responsible gambling seriously. There are multiple warnings and suggestions placed on the different sportsbook pages, but the thing I was most interested in was the responsible gambling tools. These are completely optional, but I recommend that you take a look at them and understand how they work, so that you can use them if needed:
Deposit limits: this gives you the ability to set daily, weekly, and monthly deposit limits. Once you hit that limit, you won’t be able to make any additional deposits until the reset.
Spending limits: similar to deposit limits, but this is an additional limit where you can set the MAXIMUM you want to spend from your account balance per day, week, or month.
Time limits: this allows you to limit the number of hours you spend on the BetRivers Alberta sportsbook on any given day.
Wagering limits: this is a really flexible control that not only allows you to set how much you wager on the site per day, week, or month, but also the maximum single wager you can place on your sports bets. For example, you might set this to $5, meaning you wouldn’t be able to make bets larger than $5.
Self-exclusion: actively block access to your account for pre-determined lengths, ranging from a week up to permanent account closure.
Now we get to the fun bit – we’ve established that this is the real deal and it does loads to protect its customers. Now it’s time to see what potential fun and entertainment you can get from the sportsbook itself. I was mightily impressed with what BetRivers Alberta offers, and while it does all the generic things that we expect anyway, it’s also got some unique features that can take your betting experience to the next level.
Like I do with all my sportsbook reviews, I first look at what sports they support, and with BetRivers Alberta, they have a solid collection, including:
Baseball, football, basketball, hockey, soccer, tennis, golf, MMA/UFC, motorsports, Formula 1, esports, Aussie Rules, cricket, cycling, darts, Gaelic sports, handball, netball, Pesapallo, Rugby League, Rugby Union, snooker, table tennis, TV & novelty.
They have really good coverage of the most popular North American and global sports – especially the USA/Canada pro leagues like the NBA, CFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, and NFL. Not only that though, there’s awesome coverage for tennis, golf, and soccer. The only minor criticism I have is that they are missing some more niche sports such as Kabaddi, Lacrosse, and Futsal.
BetRivers Alberta goes way further than just having loads of sports to bet on. I was more impressed with their coverage for leagues and competitions within those sports. For example, the following were just some of the soccer competitions you could bet on:
There is this level of detail for most of the popular sports, and I think you’ll be able to find bets whether you enjoy top-flight competition, or you follow teams lower down in the scene for your sport. Lastly, I was excited to see the individual betting variety they have, and I think one of their strongest features is their Same Game Parlay bets. For example, the soccer World Cup was live when I wrote this review, and a game between the Ivory Coast and Norway had 400+ SGP picks to choose from, such as:
When you navigate to the main part of the BetRivers sportsbook, you should be able to see a “Live Now” button – this will open the dedicated live betting section, and here you can see all live and upcoming in-play events. I really enjoyed using the in-play section for the World Cup – for individual games, they have lots of stats, and a 2D game render so you can follow the action if the game isn’t available via their live streaming setup.
I tested the BetRivers Alberta odds against other Alberta sportsbooks – there was no real difference in terms of market averages, and in some cases, I felt like the BetRivers odds were actually slightly better. The main point though, is that I did not feel like I was getting a bad deal with any of the bets I made and their odds.
When I’m reviewing new Alberta betting sites I want to make sure I am comfortable using the site – I want a smooth sportsbook where I can find the bets I want to make instantly, and I also want a decent mobile setup. BetRivers Alberta pretty much delivers this, and I was impressed with both the website and mobile apps.
Before using the mobile apps, I started with the desktop website as this is typically where I do most of my betting. Straight away, I was impressed with the clean and modern style – it uses a white, blue, and gold colour scheme, and I think this really helps the text readability. Not only that, but they have organized the different menus in a logical way, so that pretty much all the main features are only a single click away.
For example, along the top, there is a nav bar with links to the responsible gambling tools, help center, and live chat. On the left, there are links to all the different sports that BetRivers Alberta supports. I think Canadian customers will appreciate how they’ve managed to condense the sportsbook info so it doesn’t look cluttered and confusing, and there is even a “Get Started” guide that helps new users.
For me, the site looked technically spot on too. The pages loaded really fast, and I was never waiting for the sportsbook or any of the betting options and their odds to load. I didn’t notice any missing content either, or technical errors like broken links. Overall, I really was impressed with the desktop website.
Next, I tested the mobile accessibility for BetRivers Alberta, and I was happy to find two downloadable mobile apps. Whether you have an Android or iOS smartphone, you can download an app, and I saw the following ratings and review count from the two versions at their official stores:
This makes them some of the most popular, and best Alberta sportsbooks that I’ve reviewed so far, and the comments from other customers were generally positive. Some people claimed withdrawal processing times were slow, and others reported issues with verification. BUT, the majority of comments were positive.
After I’d read some of the reviews, I downloaded and tested both versions of the app myself and had a blast. They look great, offer just as good navigation and usability as the desktop website, and give you a smooth mobile betting experience. I like how the live betting setup works on the mobile apps, and despite the comments, I personally had no issues withdrawing – yes, they aren’t always processed instantly, but I never failed to get my winnings.
BetRivers Alberta has alot going for it and I rate it as one of the better online sportsbooks to launch since the legalization of sports betting in the Province. I think that from my BetRivers Alberta review, standout features included the desktop and mobile usability, the quality of the sportsbook offering, and the Same Game Parlay bet setup that they have.
Add into that excellent security and responsible gambling tools, and you have a well-rounded site that both newcomers and veterans alike will enjoy. Lastly, if you get stuck, there’s the detailed help center and live chat facilities. It’s just a good online sportsbook and I enjoyed using it! If you fancy trying it out for yourself though, just use any of the banners that I’ve put on this page and get signed up.
Yes! BetRivers Alberta has a gambling license from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC). This is a requirement to legally operate in the Canadian Province of Alberta. I have checked the license details personally – everything checks out, and the license was active at the time I created this review.
Maybe! As you should already know, there is never any guarantee with online sports betting, and you can potentially get 0 returns back from your bets. However, BetRivers Alberta is a real money sportsbook, and you can make deposits with CAD. You’ll then have the option to use your CAD deposits to make bets, and if your bets win, your CAD payout will be based on your stake and the odds.
Anyone who lives in Alberta, is over 18, and does NOT already have a BetRivers Alberta account. If you are from other locations, you might be able to check our banners here and sign up at the relevant BetRivers version if it is available.
Sometimes. I didn’t find live streaming for every event, and it will very much rely on broadcasting rights and what BetRivers can get access to. Your best option is to simply check their live betting section and you should easily be able to see if you can watch the action or not. While I created this BetRivers Alberta review, for example, I was able to watch some live tennis games.
Yes. You should be able to download either the Android or iOS version of the BetRivers app from the Play Store or App Store respectively. I’ve tested both versions and they work great, with a smooth live betting setup and a simple main navigation where you can find the different sports categories.
