As many sports bettors know, Canada has legalized sports betting, and Alberta is beginning to license sportsbooks. One of the new licensees is this popular global bookmaker brand, which is why we created this Betway Alberta review.
You may already be familiar with this brand, but now you’re wondering what the Alberta version of this sportsbook looks like. We took a deep dive and researched every corner of this bookmaker, from its betting tools to its payment methods to its customer service experience, and everything in between. Read on to find out what we learned…
Yes! But of course that wasn’t always the case. Let us share a quick overview and history with you before we dive into our review…
For decades, parlay betting was legal in Canada. Since a parlay is harder to hit than a single bet, this kept sportsbetting in Canada operating more like a lottery rather than a sharp wagering activity. However, in 2021 the government struck down the ban on single-game wagering. Instead of handling sports betting on a national level, Canada turned it over to the provinces. Alberta already had the foundation in place, with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) launching Play Alberta as the only sanctioned gambling portal.
Soon enough, Alberta took a look at Ontario’s open market and all the revenue generated, so they decided to do the same. The Alberta iGaming Commission (AiGC) was launched in 2025 to register and oversee gaming sites, while the AGCL provided the regulatory oversight. The AiGC began accepting licensing applications in January 2026 with the intent of making Alberta online gaming legal as of July 13, 2026.
To make a long story short, Betway has secured its Alberta licensing, and so it now operates legally in Alberta. Now that you know that you can legally place bets with this brand, let’s get into the heart of our Betway Alberta review…

The first thing you’ll notice about this site is that it’s simple, and that’s a good thing. The sports are listed A-Z along the left side of the screen, and they usually include a “featured” category, which is a major sporting event. You can reach most anything you need from the sportsbook’s main page, including your account information, the Cashier, and live support. The middle of the screen will feature recommended bets and sporting events.
As far as sports coverage, you’d be hard pressed to find a sportsbook with more extensive global coverage. There are over 30 sports that range from your mainstream sports all the way down to niche sports. You’ll find sports such as football, American football, hockey, baseball, basketball, women’s basketball, tennis, golf and many more popular sports. This sportsbook specializes in football, so you’ll find leagues and events that you may not find elsewhere. You’ll also find niche sports such as table tennis, handball, snooker, darts and more.
In addition, those who enjoy esports can bet on popular favourites such as Valorant, League of Legends, CrossFire, Dota 2, and others. What’s more, there are virtual (sim) sports to bet on as well, such as sim play cricket and tennis.
There’s no shortage of entertainment here. Even if your favourite sport isn’t in season, you’re very likely to find something else you enjoy to bet on. Plus this sportsbook also features futures – some of them well in advance – so you can place bets on your favourite sports for events that may happen months from now.
Which brings us to the next point…
You’ll find all the standard options such as moneyline, spreads, totals, futures, etc. Where this sportsbook really stands out is with its extensive lineup of prop bets. While you can find prop bets for most events, the popular events have particularly deep prop betting menus. We compared odds at Betway with a few of its competitors, and found that the odds are fairly average – there are definitely sharper bookmakers out there. However, due to its large betting volume, you can often find fairly competitive odds for football as well as for other popular sporting events.
The bet builder is fairly average, but it does what you need it to do. It’s easy to add the recommended bets or parlays to your betting slip with just a tap. This sportsbook also features in-play (live) betting, and it works really well on this stable platform, as does the livestreaming feature.
Not quite yet, at least not for Alberta players. It has an app for greater Canada, plus it has an app for Ontario. We expect that an Alberta-specific app will roll out soon, and that it will be comparable to the Ontario app. As such, we took a look at the Ontario app and are using that as the basis for our review.
If we’re right that the Alberta app will be similar to Ontario’s app, then we’re likely to rate this as one of the better Alberta sportsbook apps, thanks largely to its user-friendliness and fast performance. You can choose either the iPhone app or the Android app. Take note that Betway has two apps – one for its casino, and one for its sportsbook, so make sure you download the right one.
The only complaint we have about the current version of the app is the aggressive session timeouts. If you sit idle for too long, you’ll get logged out. This is an issue if you’ve been idle but you suddenly need to make a bet quickly, as you’ll experience a delay as you’re logging back in. The supposed reason for this timing out activity is for security and compliance reasons. That makes sense, but it’s still annoying when it happens, especially if it happens when you’re about to make a time-sensitive bet. Hopefully, when the Alberta app rolls out they fix this particular issue.
The key takeaway here is that it’s absolutely worth your time to join this sportsbook. It features standard odds, except you can find rather competitive odds for popular events, which makes this bookmaker a great option for the casual bettor.
Naturally, You can’t start placing those wagers until you make a deposit. And that brings us to the next component of our Betway Sportsbook Alberta review…
Players have a nice variety of payment options available to them, including Visa, Mastercard, PaySafeCard, NeoSurf, Much Better, Payz, InstaDebit, Flexepin, iDebit, Interac, and Apple Pay. That’s more than many of its competitors offer, so we’re impressed with the options.
The withdrawal methods are much the same, with a few exceptions where the deposit method can’t be withdrawn to (such as a Mastercard credit card). In most cases, you won’t have an option – rather, this brand will process the withdrawal back to the payment method that you used for your most recent deposit. In some cases, a certain withdrawal method that you used in the last month may be the preference. For example, Visa debit is usually preferred over certain other withdrawal methods.
You can think of your withdrawal as happening in two stages, each with its own timeline. The first stage is where Betway approves your withdrawal, which usually takes 24 hours or less. Of course it would be better if it was an instant withdrawal, but this timeline is perfectly acceptable.
After the payment is approved, then stage two is waiting for the financial provider to complete the transaction so that you receive your money. Much Better is among the fastest options, with the transaction completing in as little as two hours, and usually within 24 hours. Visa Direct is also fast, as it takes 24 hours or less. Bank transfers and other standard credit cards can take two to five days.
As we researched this brand for our Betway Alberta review, the one thing that we really like about this brand’s withdrawal process is they keep you updated every step of the way. Here are the status messages you’ll see:
Sometimes a payment may be delayed during the processing stage, which brings us to this next question…
If a withdrawals gets hung up during processing, it’s usually due to one of the following reasons:
If the above items aren’t causing the issue, then you can get in touch with customer service if your withdrawal is taking an unusually long time. And that brings us to the next component of our review…

For this part of our review, we research two items: the DIY support documentation, and the live (human) support experience. We were pleased with both. Take a look…
This brand offers a nice collection of FAQs, troubleshooting guides, and other help articles to answer your basic questions. There are 15+ main help topics, with dozens of browseable or searchable help topics within those main categories. Here you’ll find information about deposits, withdrawals, login issues, technical support documentation, information if you’re new to Betway, sports betting help and much more. All of this information is easily accessible by clicking the “Help” link that’s present at the bottom of the homepage, as well as many other pages on the site. You can also click the Live Chat button from any page and choose to search through the documentation. Of course at any point you can get in touch with live support, which brings us to the next point…
To reach the live chat, all you have to do is click the help/chat option that’s present on every page in the lower right hand corner of your screen. As mentioned, you can search through documentation, or you can choose to go directly to live help by sending a message.
As is typical with most sportsbooks, you’re going to encounter an AI (artificial intelligence) bot first. We found this bot to be somewhat cumbersome, as it offered help options rather than waiting for you to ask a question. However, you can easily get a human on the line within just a couple minutes. When we requested human help, our support rep was prompt and professional, and we had all our questions answered in about five minutes.
The takeaway here is that there is plenty of documentation for the do-it-yourselfers, but those who prefer human help will have a very good experience too.
Now let’s turn our attention in this Betway Alberta review to the legality and security of this platform. Read on…

As mentioned at the top of this review, this sportsbook is now licensed and fully legal to operate in Alberta. It’s registered with Alberta iGaming, and the regulatory oversight is provided by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission. This means that there are strong player protections in place, such as dispute resolution measures, auditing, player safety controls, and regulations that the gaming site must keep its operating funds separate from the player funds. And if you’re familiar with the Betway brand and its parent company (Betway Limited), then you know it’s a brand that’s trusted around the world, and that it’s eCOGRA certified for fairness.
In addition to being licensed in Alberta, this brand is also secure. Our research shows that it carries a valid security certificate, and any information transmitted over the site is encrypted and secure. This brand partners with reputable third party providers, such as well-known gaming platforms and payment processors.
The key take away here is that this is one of the best Alberta betting sites with an impeccable reputation, so you can feel good about joining.

Sports bettors who are living in Alberta will be pleased to know that Betway is everything you want in a sportsbook. This licensed, eCOGRA certified brand lives up to its reputation with great customer service, reliable withdrawals, and a user-friendly platform. But what makes this brand stand out is its broad sports coverage, and its exceptional depth, especially for football. You’ll also find deep betting menus, especially for the most popular sporting events. And if you enjoy in-play betting, you’ll enjoy the stable and fast app or website that gets your bets in without delay.
When you’re ready to get signed up, all you have to do is tap the Betway banner on this page to get started. Happy betting, Alberta!
The most common reason that bettors get blocked from this site is if they’re attempting to access it from outside of Alberta. In order to legally place a bet, you need to be physically located within Alberta. This is true even if you’re an Alberta resident who created your player account when you were at home, but now you’re traveling and the site’s geofence is blocking you. If this happens, just wait until you get home to place bets. If you attempt to circumvent the geofencing, the brand may suspend your account.
Betway’s payment options vary by location. For example, if you have a friend who lives in Europe, you are going to see different payment options than your friend sees. Likewise, if you have a friend who lives in a province in Canada other than Alberta, they too may have different options than you. If you want to know for sure that options are available to you, you can log into the site, navigate to the Cashier, and check out the payment options.
On July 13th, Betway will transition your account to the new regulated Alberta account. This means you may be required to complete certain steps as required by law, such as verify your identity, age, and your residential address in Alberta. At this time, you may also see some changes to the sportsbook, such as different payment options. However, rest assured that your account, your history, and any balance in your account will carry over to the new account.
