Bally’s Corporation launched Bally Bet and Monopoly Casino in Alberta in early August. Both iGaming platforms are available in Ontario as well. Meanwhile, Super Group is likely to wait until Fall 2026 for its Betway platform to go live.
Bally Bet is the flagship platform for Bally’s, providing both a sportsbook and online casino. Monopoly Casino is based on the famous board game. The platform was created through a Bally’s partnership with Hasbro.
Both Bally Bet and Monopoly Casino had been open for pre-registration in Alberta, but they didn’t go live in the province until August 4th, which is nearly a month after the July 13th launch date. These two platforms are the latest to set up shop in Alberta after Betsson launched Casino Days earlier this month.
Since it took some time to launch in Alberta, it’s a bit behind in what has immediately become a robust market with plenty of competition.
There are now 26 approved iGaming sites within the province:
With Bally Bet, Bally’s looks to leverage its reputable brand that has become renowned throughout North America, operating 20 retail locations in the U.S. while now operational in both Alberta and Ontario. With Monopoly Casino, Bally’s will look to secure market share by appealing to an audience with a familiar brand. The Monopoly theme adds a different look compared to other online casinos. The Alberta iGaming market will continue to grow, as there are 43 operators currently registered with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC). That means that 17 operators are still getting ready to launch in the province.
In an earnings call earlier this week, Super Group CEO Neal Menashe said that the company plans to take its time rolling out Betway in the regulated market in Alberta. Betway was previously available in Alberta through its grey market, where residents were accepted through an offshore license.
Since Betway has an existing user base in Alberta, they’re planning to figure out how to effectively transition from the grey market to the regulated market.
The AGLC requires all operators to stop unregulated activities, but grants a three-month extension on a case-by-case basis for those who can demonstrate a path to compliance.
In other words, Betway can still operate in the grey market until October, so they’re using that time to ensure that they’re fully prepared for a launch in the regulated market. The plan is to make sure that the user experience is up to par as they get ready to navigate a competitive market.
With almost 30 operators available in Alberta, having a delayed start to this market would theoretically put Betway behind other platforms in terms of customer retention. But Betway is a unique case since they’ve already been available within the province through the grey market.
With an existing user base, this can help Betway navigate any challenges they’d normally face with a delayed start to Alberta regulated iGaming.
Having already experienced a transition from grey to regulated market in Ontario, Betway appears more equipped to deal with this change on their second try.
