DAZN Bet went live in Ontario on June 30th and then launched in Alberta on July 13th, on the same day that the market opened its doors to regulated iGaming. DAZN is one of the leading livestreaming services in Canada, providing NFL Game Pass and much more to viewers across the country. The goal is to leverage this position to acquire users in a pair of crowded markets.
DAZN has become a well-known brand in Canada, especially as the go-to provider for the NFL season, which is set to kick off next month.
In addition to the NFL, soccer fans will have access to view UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga, Serie A, La Liga, and Ligue 1. There are even UFC events for MMA fans, along with a recent partnership with the CFL.
To that end, the company is aiming to leverage this position to become an appealing operator for users who already have dozens of betting sites at their disposal.
The key differentiator is the live-streaming services. Users will be able to watch a live game on DAZN while live scores, pertinent news, and helpful stats are displayed. They can then have DAZN Bet on a second screen to place their wagers.
This can be particularly useful for bettors who enjoy live betting, where odds update in real-time based on what’s happening in the game. If a user is watching while placing an in-game wager, it makes it easier to react quickly to odds updates. Users can even see the live odds as they watch the game.
The hope for DAZN is that this integration between live-streaming and sports betting can help DAZN Bet stand out from the competition.
As one of the newer operators in Ontario, DAZN Bet is similar to Fanatics Sportsbook, which recently put the wheels in motion towards a launch in the province, being granted a license by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
Just like DAZN Bet, Fanatics similarly leverages an added perk to its sportsbook. As a leader in sports merchandise, they allow users to earn points through betting activity, which can be redeemed for their favorite sports apparel.
With so many operators in Ontario and now in Alberta, betting sites like DAZN Bet and Fanatics Sportsbook have a chance to succeed with their added features that aren’t available at other platforms.
Despite the key differentiator of live-streaming, with so many sportsbooks available in Ontario and Alberta, it’s going to be difficult for DAZN to gain significant market share. This is especially true because of industry giants like FanDuel, DraftKings, and bet365 already establishing a presence within these markets.
With that said, it’s refreshing to see new entrants provide unique selling points to try to appeal to a wider audience. This creates a more user-friendly sports betting experience for both Ontario and Alberta residents.
