Fanatics Sportsbook and Casino could be the latest operator to enter the competitive Ontario iGaming market. The company recently received a license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). This means that all Fanatics requires is a contract with iGaming Ontario, and they’ll be set to launch in the province.

Fanatics would be joining a crowded market

Ontario has one of the most competitive iGaming markets in North America, with dozens of operators already available within the province. In total, there are 50 operators in Ontario, including industry leaders like FanDuel and DraftKings. To put that number into context, the state with the most operators is New Jersey, at approximately 40.

That means Fanatics could face some challenges in obtaining market share within the province, especially since users have so many platforms to choose from. Typically, recreational users tend to stick to one or two betting sites, so Fanatics may have to get creative with user acquisition.

Fanatics can appeal to users with its merchandising integration

One of the ways that Fanatics can stand out from the competition is with its integration with sports merchandise. As the industry leader in sports apparel, Fanatics applies this within its sports betting platform, where users accumulate FanCash when placing wagers. This can be redeemed for sports jerseys and other merchandise.

In a competitive market where new user acquisition can be difficult, offering sports merchandise as a perk to reward betting activity could be an effective method for Fanatics.

Other new Ontario platforms have similar additional perks compared to most operators. For example, DAZN Bet is integrated with a popular sports live-streaming platform, while Hard Rock Bet allows users to accumulate reward points for hotel accommodations at Hard Rock locations.

To that end, having this extra feature can make it worth it for platforms like Fanatics to join Ontario, even though there are already so many existing operators.

Ontario could be a trial run for Alberta expansion

With Alberta iGaming going live on July 13th, 2026, there’s a reasonable expectation that Ontario could be a trial run for Fanatics. If operations perform up to expectations in Ontario, there’s a chance that Fanatics could aim to expand to Alberta.

There would be more potential for growth in Alberta, since it’s a brand new market with about half of the operators available in Ontario.

What’s next for Fanatics in Ontario

All that’s left for Fanatics to launch in Ontario is to negotiate a contract with iGaming Ontario, which is essentially a formality after obtaining a license from the AGCO.

With the 2026 NFL season coming up next month, it’s likely that Fanatics is setting up an Ontario launch to coincide with that. This is because the NFL season is a time when betting activity ramps up considerably. It’s typically the best month of the year for sportsbooks.
